Recognizing this great potential, the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province has issued a Plan for sustainable and multi-value development of tea trees for the period 2024 - 2030, opening a new chapter in the development journey of the tea industry here. With the goal of stabilizing the tea area of the whole province at 1,200 hectares and reaching an output of 13.8 thousand tons by 2030, Hoa Binh is gradually affirming its position on the map of Vietnamese tea.
The vast green tea fields in Pa Co commune (Mai Chau) are like a vivid natural picture, proving the strong vitality of this plant. However, behind that beauty are concerns about preserving ancient tea varieties and improving product quality.
According to Vice Chairman of Pa Co Commune People's Committee, Vang A Cha, for ancient tea trees, there are still households arbitrarily selling seedlings to tourists; improper use of pesticides also causes a few ancient tea trees to die... Recently, the commune has stepped up propaganda work, advising households not to sell any ancient tea trees in the area to preserve the source of seedlings and area. The commune government also hopes that purchasing enterprises and specialized units will actively guide tea growing households in the area on techniques and standards so that the production process ensures quality as well as increases the value of tea products when harvested. In addition, it hopes to receive attention and direction from authorities at all levels and specialized sectors for the commune to gradually expand the area and build a brand for tea trees in Pa Co.
With a total tea growing area of 870 hectares, Hoa Binh has advantages in soil, climate, history and typical tea varieties such as Shan Tuyet and green tea. According to the Plan, to achieve the set goals, the provincial agricultural sector has set 7 key tasks and solutions. In particular, promoting propaganda, raising awareness and applying science and technology are core factors. Restoring and preserving the genetic resources of indigenous tea varieties and new high-yield tea varieties also play an important role in preserving and developing the sustainable tea industry.
Mr. Bui Duy Linh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh Province, said that the development of concentrated tea material areas aims to improve the efficiency of production, preliminary processing, processing and product consumption according to the value chain. Synchronously applying science and technology in all stages from production to processing, contributing to improving quality and diversifying products; ensuring food safety in production, applying good agricultural production processes. From there, building product brands and trademarks, increasing added value, product competitiveness and sustainable development; strengthening advertising and trade promotion activities, expanding product consumption markets. With 9 key tasks and prioritized projects, relevant units and sectors, based on their functions and tasks, focus on implementation to ensure effectiveness.
With strategic orientations and consensus of the government, businesses and people, Hoa Binh tea is gradually growing, becoming a valuable resource, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province. Besides its economic value, Hoa Binh tea also carries cultural value, is a symbol of local identity, and is the pride of the people in the highlands.
The green tea hills in Hoa Binh are not only a source of livelihood but also a place to preserve stories, traditions and unique cultural values. Each tea leaf is a song, telling the story of the journey of overcoming difficulties, creativity and passion of the farmers here. And when the cups of tea are enjoyed, the quintessential flavor of Hoa Binh will spread, carrying diverse values, captivating people's hearts.
