Kentucky, Mississippi elect governors
Among the elections held on November 7, voters in the two states of Kentucky and Mississippi cast their ballots for governors. The results in Kentucky were finalized when incumbent Governor Andy Beshear (Democrat) was re-elected, defeating his challenger, Attorney General Daniel Cameron (Republican), according to Edison Research projections.
Notably, Kentucky is the state that former President Donald Trump won overwhelmingly in the 2020 presidential election with a margin of more than 25 percentage points.

As one of the few Democratic governors in a Republican-leaning state, Mr. Beshear has touted his record of creating jobs, supporting public education, expanding access to health care and enacting strict policies to contain Covid-19. President Joe Biden called Mr. Beshear to congratulate him on his victory, according to The Hill .
Results in Mississippi are yet to be revealed, as incumbent Governor Tate Reeves (Republican) is trying to win re-election against challenger Brandon Presley, a public service commissioner in the northern region of the state and a distant relative of the late Elvis Presley.

The vote in Ohio also had results, when voters agreed to two issues, including fixing the right to abortion in the state constitution and legalizing the use of marijuana for recreational purposes, along with management, according to Reuters.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (Republican) had previously issued a ban on abortions after six weeks. The ban was controversial because six weeks was considered too early for a woman to know she was pregnant. The court ruled against DeWine's ban and the state constitutional amendment would protect a woman's right to an abortion up to about 24 weeks.
On the marijuana issue, the new law allows people 21 and older to use marijuana for recreational purposes. This activity will be regulated and taxed. Ohio had previously legalized the use of marijuana for medical purposes.
