On August 11, the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) arrested nearly 120 suspects nationwide for posting death threats on online websites. As of August 11, authorities had detected 315 death threats on online websites and arrested 119 suspects who had made those threats, the KNPA said. According to the KNPA, teenagers accounted for 52.3 percent of the total suspects who spread death threats online.

Police and prosecutors will impose severe punishment on those who post such threats to reassure the public. Such threats on the Internet have surged since a stabbing that left one person dead and 13 others injured at a store in Seongnam, south of Seoul, on Aug. 3.
