(NLDO)- To reduce pollution, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh said the city will support people to exchange old motorbikes.

This afternoon, December 11, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh answered questions from many delegates of the Hanoi People's Council about solutions and plans to overcome air pollution and "revive" rivers in the area.

Regarding the "revival" of polluted rivers, the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee said that the city is focusing on reviving the To Lich River. Currently, all wastewater discharged into the To Lich River has been collected and brought to the Yen Xa wastewater treatment plant for treatment. After the wastewater is cleaned and meets standards, it will be discharged back into the To Lich River.

In addition, Hanoi is also working with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to implement a project to pump water from the Red River into the To Lich River, to create a flow, truly "reviving" this more than 2,000-year-old river, in accordance with the direction of General Secretary To Lam at the meeting with the Standing Committee of the Hanoi Party Committee on November 27.

"The city will report and ask the Prime Minister to implement this project in an emergency situation to soon replenish the Red River water for the To Lich River. Relevant agencies have surveyed the route and guided water from the Red River. Now all that remains is to implement it," said Mr. Tran Sy Thanh.

The head of the Hanoi government emphasized that on the basis of "reviving" the To Lich River, it will create momentum to clean up other inner-city rivers such as the Lu River, Set River, and Kim Nguu River.

In addition, the Chairman of the City People's Committee said that Hanoi also launched a "bright, green, clean, beautiful" movement throughout the city, initially focusing on inner-city districts. Among them, improving the problem of waste collection, which is currently quite inadequate.

Also according to Mr. Tran Sy Thanh, after the Hanoi People's Council passed the Resolution on low emission zones at this session, the Hanoi People's Committee will study a plan to have a program to reduce gasoline and diesel motorbikes in low emission zones.

"The city will work with manufacturers to have discount programs, supporting people to exchange old motorbikes for new motorbikes or electric vehicles to reduce air pollution in the city," said Mr. Tran Sy Thanh.

The Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee emphasized that the work of making the capital "bright, green, clean and beautiful" requires the participation of the State, businesses and people. In addition, he called on every citizen and business to join hands with the city to change the appearance and face of the capital.
