In the top 15 most popular destinations in the world in 2023 for solo travel, Vietnam has two representatives: Hanoi ranked first and Ho Chi Minh City ranked sixth.
The ranking is based on the latest research by the leading British travel company Explore Worldwide on global search data. Interest in Vietnam's capital from international visitors increased by more than 940% compared to the number of searches last year, while Ho Chi Minh City increased by 480%.

"It's no wonder Hanoi is a worthy destination for a solo adventure. With its aesthetic beauty and ancient architecture, Hanoi is a place rich in cultural values. Solo travelers have many activities to experience this place such as visiting food markets, historical sites or simply admiring the colorful streets," commented the UK-based travel company.
Explore Worldwide rates Ho Chi Minh City as “Vietnam’s most vibrant city,” with a fascinating blend of tradition and modernity. Suggested destinations include exploring the Cu Chi tunnels, taking a boat trip, and dining on the rooftop of a skyscraper with a panoramic view of the city all in one day.
The remaining cities include: Bangkok (Thailand), Taipei (Taiwan), Seoul (South Korea), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Perth (Australia), Singapore, Sydney, Guangzhou (China), Zurich (Switzerland), Melbourne (Australia), Nice (France), Manila (Philippines). Only two European cities are in the top, showing that the trend of searching for and visiting Asia-Pacific destinations is becoming a new trend for solo travelers.
Explore Worldwide has been organizing adventure tours to over 100 countries for over 40 years. Over 98% of customers surveyed said they would book a tour with Explore Worldwide again for their next trip.
The study was conducted by Explore Worldwide after videos featuring the solo travel hashtag racked up nearly four billion views on TikTok , helping to turn solo travel into a global cultural phenomenon. To find the hottest destinations, the company analyzed two years of Google search data. The top cities were not only the most searched for this year, but also had significant growth compared to the previous year.
According to Explore Travel's regional director for Australia and New Zealand, Ben Ittensoh, the latest research shows that travellers are increasingly looking to explore beyond traditional Western destinations. "It's exciting to see cities like Hanoi and Bangkok emerging as hotspots for solo adventurers. This trend is testament to the historical and cultural appeal of these cities, as well as the changing nature of today's travellers, who are looking for something unique in their travel experiences," Ittensoh said.
