Google sponsors $1.5 million to promote AI research and education in Vietnam

This funding (highlighted during an interaction between Mr. Jeff Dean - Vice President and Chief Scientist, head scientist of Google DeepMind & Google Research - with Fulbright students and AI enthusiasts) will promote the development of advanced AI education programs, including research and scholarships at this school.

The grant from Google will be used to advance AI education at Fulbright. With the support of strategic partner New Turing Institute – Vietnam’s leading AI training, research and startup center, Fulbright will promote the following initiatives:

- Teaching AI: Fulbright will integrate AI into all academic programs at the school, develop AI-related majors and minors in undergraduate programs, as well as foundational subjects to help students gain AI application skills.

- Developing the teaching staff: Fulbright will recruit more AI experts to expand and enhance the school's teaching and research capabilities.

- Research and collaboration: Fulbright will support AI-related research by faculty and students, as well as collaborative initiatives with academic and industry partners in Vietnam and internationally.

- Google Scholarship: Fulbright believes in an education that is accessible to all. The Google Scholarship helps make this belief a reality with partial or full tuition scholarships.

- Community Outreach: Increase public awareness and education about the impacts and opportunities of AI.

Fulbright Vietnam receives $1.5 million grant from Google to promote AI research and education in Vietnam

Dr. Scott Fritzen, President of Fulbright Vietnam, emphasized: "AI is reshaping the world in unprecedented ways. At Fulbright, we aim to exploit this potential responsibly. Google's support has greatly helped us integrate AI into our academic programs. This partnership is a testament to Fulbright's commitment to training future leaders who can apply AI to solve global challenges."

Together with the Vietnamese Government and local partners, Google is committed to nurturing local talent, supporting local businesses to grow, and helping people improve their daily lives with useful AI solutions and products. In addition to the $1.5 million grant to Fulbright Vietnam for AI research, Google also collaborated with the Vietnam National Innovation Center to launch two programs to build an AI-ready workforce: Google AI Essentials, and promote the development and testing of GenAI for local startups with Google for Startups Accelerator SEA Vietnam.

The $1.5 million grant from Google.org will help advance AI research by supporting faculty with promising research programs, maximizing research opportunities for students through scholarships, and fostering and working with the broader AI ecosystem among universities in Vietnam.
