Thousands of visitors attend the Hoanh Son Thanh Mau festival

(QBĐT) - For 3 days from March 29-31 (ie the 1st-3rd lunar month), in Quang Dong commune (Quang Trach), the Hoanh Son Thanh Mau festival 2025 will take place. The festival attracts a large number of people and tourists from all over the country to participate.

According to Vietnamese folklore, Holy Mother Lieu Hanh is one of the four immortals. Holy Mother is the daughter of the Jade Emperor, who descended to earth three times, manifesting her spirit to save the people and help the country. Holy Mother Lieu Hanh was granted many royal decrees by feudal dynasties from the Le to the Nguyen dynasties, honored as "Mother of the world" and worshiped and honored by people all over the country.

To remember the merits of Holy Mother Lieu Hanh, the people of Quang Binh built a temple right at the foot of Ngang Pass, on the North-South highway (where the Holy Mother built a grass hut and transformed into a beautiful girl to help the people) and has been worshiping her for generations.

Every year, from the 1st to the 3rd of the 3rd lunar month, the people of Quang Dong commune respectfully celebrate the death anniversary of the Holy Mother Lieu Hanh. This is a special spiritual and cultural activity of the people of Quang Dong that has existed for many generations.

From 2024, the People's Committee of Quang Trach district decided to upgrade the death anniversary of Holy Mother Lieu Hanh from the commune level to the district level and change the name to "Hoanh Son Holy Mother" festival with many cultural and spiritual activities according to the Mother worship religion.

A large number of people and tourists participate in the Hoanh Son Thanh Mau festival in 2025.

Due to the influence of unusual weather, the festival area had rain and strong winds, so the People's Committee of Quang Trach district did not organize the opening ceremony of the Hoanh Son Thanh Mau festival program in 2025. However, other contents in the program (including the ceremony and festival) still took place as planned.

According to Tran Thi Van, Head of the Department of Culture, Science and Information of Quang Trach district, in the first two days of the Hoanh Son Thanh Mau festival in 2025, thousands of visitors came to offer incense, visit the landscape and participate in the festival every day. It is expected that on the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month (the main death anniversary, the day the Thanh Mau “passed away without illness”) the number of visitors will increase even more.

It is known that since 2024, the historical and cultural relic of Lieu Hanh Temple has been recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as a tourist destination.
