Within the framework of the Hung Kings' Commemoration Anniversary - Hung Temple Festival 2023, the 10th Phu Tho Province Banh Chung Wrapping, Cooking and Banh Giay Making Competition took place on April 27 (March 8 of the Lunar calendar) at the Hung Temple Historical Relic Site.
The competition had the participation of over 100 artisans from 13 districts, cities and towns in the province. Right after the opening drum beat, the artisans started the competition with high determination amidst the cheers of many visitors attending the festival. By the end of the afternoon of the same day, the Organizing Committee awarded the first prize in the content of wrapping and cooking banh chung to Cam Khe team and the team from Yen Lap district won the first prize in the content of banh giay. These two teams will be selected to make offerings to King Hung on the 10th day of the third lunar month next year. This activity aims to recreate the contest of making offerings to ancestors from the time of Hung Kings, honoring the traditional cultural values of the nation, arousing pride in history and creativity in labor, showing filial piety to ancestors, parents and the spirit of solidarity, mutual love and mutual assistance of the ethnic community; contributing to preserving and promoting the unique values of the cultural heritage of the Hung Kings period and the Hung Kings worship in Phu Tho.
The contest is not only an opportunity for artisans to demonstrate their abilities and exchange experiences, but also contributes to preserving the identity and promoting typical cultural values of agricultural and rural areas to a large number of people in and outside the province. Banh chung and banh giay are also typical and meaningful products of Phu Tho tourism for tourists to give as gifts to relatives and family when making a pilgrimage to their roots. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Oanh, Deputy Director of Hung Temple Historical Relic Site, said that the contest is a unique cultural activity held annually to serve the people and tourists on the occasion of the Hung Kings' death anniversary; contributing to honoring products made from rice grains, expressing respect and gratitude to the Hung Kings and also an opportunity for artisan groups and ethnic people in the province to exchange and connect with the community...
