Starting from the 2024-2025 school year, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will be split into two schools: Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.
According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, after the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee agreed to separate Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted into Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School for the Gifted, the Department is completing the project and submitting it to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. These two schools will start enrolling students from the 2024-2025 school year, in which Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will enroll specialized 10th graders and Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School will enroll 6th and 10th graders.
Recruiting 350 students for 10 6th grade classes
Thus, in the 2024-2025 school year, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School will enroll 10th grade students in the form of entrance exams through the 10th grade exam taking place on June 6-7.
For the junior high school block of Tran Dai Nghia Junior High School - High School, the Department will conduct the enrollment of grade 6 through a capacity assessment test similar to the previous form of the grade 6 survey of Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School.
According to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, to prepare for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year, Tran Dai Nghia Specialized Secondary and High School proposed to enroll 10 sixth grade classes (350 students) and 5 tenth grade classes (175 students). Compared to the sixth grade quota of Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School in previous years (535 students), the sixth grade quota of Tran Dai Nghia Specialized Secondary and High School has decreased by 185 students. With the above quota, Tran Dai Nghia Specialized Secondary and High School has 35 students per class to teach according to the orientation of international integration and comprehensive education for students.
Based on this proposal, the Department of Education and Training will approve and issue quotas with other public high schools around mid-April.
According to the Department of Education and Training, in the 2024-2025 school year, both schools will share the same teaching staff and facilities, ensuring that there is no disruption to current students. New students admitted to the two schools in the 2024-2025 school year will study at the facilities according to the project.
Specifically, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted: located at lot P2, 38.4 ha resettlement area, An Khanh ward, Thu Duc city (this is the current second campus of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted).
Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School: located at 53 Nguyen Du, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1 (currently the first campus of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted).
Admission criteria for 10th grade specialized class
Thus, from the 2024-2025 school year, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will only have specialized classes and 2 non-specialized classes for grades 11 and 12. The school will implement the 2 non-specialized classes in a rolling manner and end in the 2025-2026 school year.
Also starting from the 2024-2025 school year, according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted will not enroll non-specialized 10th graders but only enroll specialized 10th graders with a total annual quota of about 900 students.
In addition, 4 high schools that often recruit specialized classes are Nguyen Huu Huan High School, Gia Dinh High School, Mac Dinh Chi High School, Nguyen Thuong Hien High School with a total annual enrollment target of around 800 students. It is expected that Nguyen Thuong Hien High School, Nguyen Huu Huan High School will recruit 175 specialized 10th grade students each and Mac Dinh Chi High School, Gia Dinh High School will recruit 210 specialized 10th grade students.
A leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that they are in the process of finalizing a project to separate Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted. At the same time, the Department will re-plan the organization of schools with specialized classes and specialized teaching in accordance with the provisions of Circular 05/2022/TT-BGDDT from the 2025-2026 school year.
