A survey by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on airfare data shows that airfares on September 2 increased by 20% compared to normal days before the holiday.

According to a survey by Lao Dong on August 21, on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route from August 31 to September 3, the lowest round-trip ticket price is 3.3 million VND/ticket, an increase of about 14% compared to a week ago (from August 23 to 27, the lowest price is 2.89 million VND), the highest ticket price is 4.7 million VND/ticket.

On the Hanoi - Nha Trang route, round-trip ticket prices from August 31 to September 3 range from VND4.7 to VND6.2 million, with the most expensive ticket costing over VND9 million. The average price increased by about 27% compared to the previous holiday week.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, ticket prices tend to increase but appear mainly on the days starting and ending the holiday. For the days in between the holidays, the basic ticket prices are relatively stable, remaining at the same level as the days before the holiday.

Compared with the peak holiday period of April 30 - May 1, 2024, airfares for the September 2 holiday are assessed to have decreased significantly and maintained a stable pace during the past summer. Accordingly, the prices for basic economy class passenger transport services on domestic flights during this period are all lower, fluctuating 40% - 60% of the maximum level according to regulations.

Vietnam Airlines reported that in the period from August 30, 2024 to September 3, 2024, airlines will operate a total of 4,257 flights, an average of 840 flights/day, an increase of 3% compared to the previous holiday week and an increase of 3.5% compared to the same period in 2023.

Of which, the average number of domestic flights is 600 flights/day, an increase of 5% compared to the previous holiday week and an increase of 2.8% compared to the same period in 2023. The average number of international flights is 241 flights/day, a decrease of 2% compared to the previous holiday week and an increase of 5.1% compared to the same period in 2023.

Particularly for domestic flights on the North-South axis (connecting Hanoi - Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnamese airlines have increased their operations with a high number of flights, averaging 241 flights/day. This number increased by 8% compared to the week before the holiday and increased by 14.9% compared to the same period last year.

Domestic tourist flights (to Vinh, Binh Dinh, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc) and flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to other localities are also being exploited by airlines, with an average of 171 flights/day on domestic tourist flights and 187 flights/day to other localities, up 2% and 4% respectively compared to the previous holiday week.

To better serve domestic flight operations during the September 2nd holiday, international flight operations of Vietnamese airlines have slightly decreased (2%).

However, the number of international flights still increased, with the total number of flights operated by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet averaging 27 flights/day, up 5% compared to before the holiday and up 95% compared to the same period last year. The number of other international flights decreased slightly, with an average of 213 flights/day, down 3% compared to the week before the holiday and down 0.8% compared to the same period in 2023.

By increasing the number of flights during the upcoming holidays, especially on domestic routes, Vietnamese airlines can supplement the supply of seats to the market.

"The fact that airlines have balanced and arranged their passenger transport plans during the upcoming September 2nd holiday season in particular and in the summer of 2024, in the context of many difficulties, especially from reducing the number of aircraft fleets, is a very commendable effort and effort," said the leader of the Civil Aviation Authority.

The Civil Aviation Authority affirmed that it always creates conditions for airlines to hire additional aircraft; confirms flight schedules so that airlines can promptly adjust plans, increase operations, and supply seats to meet market demand during peak periods.

Due to the busy holiday season, passengers are advised to book tickets early through the airline's official channels when traveling by plane. At the same time, proactively monitor flight schedules and arrange travel time to airports to avoid congestion or inconvenience due to flight delays.

In addition, if conditions permit, passengers can also consider booking tickets on flights departing early or late in the day, to have more options for cheaper prices.
