Domestic pepper price updated on January 18, 2025 |
Domestic pepper prices continue to be stable, with a sideways trend after many previous sessions of fluctuations. According to experts, the amount of pepper in stock among people is currently very low, mainly concentrated in business warehouses. This makes it difficult for pepper prices to have a major breakthrough before Tet.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) said that in the context of pepper prices remaining high, farmers are being encouraged to invest in crop care to improve productivity and product quality. However, new planting areas need time to supply the market, making it impossible for the Vietnamese pepper industry to fully recover in the short term.
Vietnam currently has about 200 pepper processing enterprises, of which 15 enterprises account for 70% of export volume, with 14 deep processing factories. Along with that, 5 foreign-invested enterprises account for nearly 30% of export market share.
Farmers in Dak Nong province harvest pepper |
According to VPSA, the impact of climate change in 2024 will partly affect pepper production of farmers in key pepper growing areas. However, some areas of the provinces recorded favorable weather conditions.
In Dak Nong, the capital of Vietnam Pepper, the output was recorded to be equivalent to the previous year. Production in some areas in the remaining key provinces such as Gia Lai, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau also had a positive trend when pepper prices increased, so farmers boldly invested in caring for and restoring existing pepper gardens.
Meanwhile, in Dak Lak province, the province with the second largest pepper area and output, it is estimated that the area and output will decrease as people switch to growing durian trees and there are not many new plantings. It is expected that farmers will not start harvesting pepper until after the Lunar New Year 2025 and this will last until the end of April 2025.

Update world pepper prices today January 18, 2025 |
According to VPSA, global pepper prices in 2025 are expected to remain high due to reduced supply, while demand in major markets such as the US and Europe remains stable. Demand for pepper in the food and spice processing industries remains the main driver of the market.
Vietnam and Brazil will maintain their positions as the world's two largest pepper exporters in 2024. However, Indonesia has emerged as a significant supplier, especially when Vietnam and Brazil suffered crop failures last year.
