In recent times, the Electricity sector has continuously warned people to be vigilant against scams impersonating electricity employees. However, recently, in the province, the situation of scams and impersonation of electricity employees has tended to increase, with sophisticated tricks to appropriate people's property.

Since the end of 2024, Phu Tho Power Company has continuously received feedback from customers about subjects impersonating Power Company employees calling to inform customers that they owe electricity bills and threatening to cut off electricity if they do not pay immediately. After that, the subject asks people to transfer money to a personal account or send links, Apps with interfaces similar to the websites of the Electricity industry, of banking organizations and asks customers to transfer money or access the link, App to pay. Currently, there have been many cases of losing money from 4 million to nearly 10 million VND from such scams.

Sharing with us, Mr. DTM, Thuong Long commune, Yen Lap district said: Recently, my wife received a phone call asking her to pay the electricity bill or the electricity would be cut off immediately. Due to subjectivity, my wife transferred more than 4 million VND from her account. Then the subject continued to request payment. Because she could not make the payment, my wife transferred it to my account. When I discovered something unusual, I told my wife to stop the transaction and report the incident to Cam Khe Electricity. Cam Khe Electricity confirmed that no employee called to ask for payment.

Electricity customers can look up electricity bill information and electricity debt information on the EVNNPC CSKH application.

Similar to Mr. DTM's case, a CLS customer in Doan Hung received a call from a strange number 0931325147 reminding him of his electricity bill and asked to be friends via Zalo, then instructed the customer to click on the link to download the Epoint app. The customer followed the instructions and lost 19.8 million VND in his account.

The situation of scammers impersonating electricity employees calling customers to commit fraud is increasing. Phu Tho Electricity Company has been actively propagating on mass media channels, websites, social networks, working directly with communes, wards, towns and residential areas to warn customers.

Customers can install and make payments via the EVNNPC CSKH application to ensure safety.

The Electricity Company also recommends that customers be extremely vigilant, do not provide documents, personal information, make friends on Zalo, access strange Website Links; scan QR codes or log into bank accounts on strange Apps; do not transfer electricity bills to personal accounts; do not install strange applications on phones... Currently, all electricity bill collection transactions are carried out through the official channels of the electricity industry, customers absolutely do not transfer money to personal accounts.

To ensure safety, Phu Tho Power Company recommends that customers use official payment methods such as banks (automatic payment, Internet banking, Mobile banking), e-wallets and online payment gateways (Viettel Money, VNPAY, MoMo...). At the same time, customers need to carefully check the information before making transactions and immediately contact the power company if they detect any unusual signs.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Ha - Deputy Director of Phu Tho Electricity said: "In the face of the above situation, we have directed electricity units to regularly propagate and warn people about subjects impersonating electricity employees to commit fraud. Phu Tho Electricity Company recommends that people need to be more vigilant and not pay electricity bills through personal accounts or Apps and links sent from strange calls. It is necessary to check official information about electricity bills and electricity services through the customer service hotline 19006769, or electricity transaction offices in the area".
