DNVN - On December 30, 2024, the live hog market continued to record stability, with some areas maintaining a slight increase. This reflects the strong increase in pork consumption demand at the end of the year.
Pig price situation in the North
Last week, the Northern region witnessed a sharp increase in live hog prices at the beginning of the week, with prices reaching VND69,000/kg in many places. However, in the middle of the week, prices unexpectedly decreased in some provinces.
Currently, Hanoi is the only locality that maintains the highest price in the country, reaching 69,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, other provinces in the region record prices ranging from 67,000 - 69,000 VND/kg.
Pig price in Central and Central Highlands
The Central Highlands region also recorded a slight increase last week. Currently, the price of live pigs here is traded in the range of 65,000 - 68,000 VND/kg. Thanh Hoa and Lam Dong continue to lead the region with the highest price, reaching 68,000 VND/kg.
Pig price situation in the South
In the South, the price of live pigs increased by 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg last week in many localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho City, and the provinces of Vinh Long, An Giang, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau.
Prices in this area range from 64,000 - 68,000 VND/kg, with localities such as Dong Nai, Tay Ninh and Ba Ria - Vung Tau reaching the highest level of 68,000 VND/kg.
Forecasting and root cause analysis
In general, the price of live pigs increased rapidly at the beginning of the week but decreased slightly in some northern provinces at the end of the week. According to experts, the price of live pigs in the last days of the year is expected to continue to fluctuate slightly, depending on consumption demand and supply.
The main reason for the current high price is the sharp increase in demand for pork at the end of the year, especially near the Lunar New Year. Food production facilities also increase their purchases of raw materials to process products for Tet.
In addition, the prolonged African swine fever epidemic has caused many farmers to worry. A large number of small pigs have been sold due to the epidemic, along with the reduction of herds in some large enterprises, leading to a shortage of large pigs.
In addition, production costs such as animal feed, transportation and other services have increased, pushing up product prices. In particular, difficulties in importing pigs from Cambodia have caused domestic pig prices to increase sharply.
Livestock situation in Thai Nguyen
According to Thai Nguyen Newspaper, Phu Luong district has increased 63 farms compared to 2020, bringing the total number of livestock and poultry to 617,600. The output of fresh meat for slaughter reached 16,600 tons, an increase of 6.4 tons compared to 2020.
However, the chain-linked livestock farming model here is still limited, with only one chain link and many farms without a synchronous waste treatment system, causing environmental pollution. Phu Luong district plans to promote propaganda and encourage biosafety livestock farming to minimize pollution.
