DNVN - On March 30, 2025, the price of live pigs in the North continued to decrease, losing another 1,000 VND/kg and falling to 66,000 VND/kg, the lowest level in the country. Meanwhile, prices in the Central and Southern regions did not fluctuate much, with some localities decreasing slightly.
Northern pig price
The Northern region witnessed downward adjustments in many key provinces, bringing the regional price level to the lowest in the country. Currently, many localities have recorded the level of 66,000 VND/kg.
- Bac Giang, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh: reduced by another 1,000 VND/kg, to 66,000 VND/kg
- Vinh Phuc, Yen Bai: maintained at around 66,000 - 67,000 VND/kg
- Phu Tho: down to 66,000 VND/kg
Oversupply and weak demand in late March kept live hog prices in the North at the lowest level in the country.
Pig price in Central Highlands
Pig prices in the Central and Central Highlands regions have continued to decline slightly since the beginning of the week, although the adjustment range is not too large. Some localities continued to decrease by another VND1,000/kg.
- Binh Dinh, Quang Tri: currently at 67,000 VND/kg
- Khanh Hoa: slightly decreased to 71,000 VND/kg
- The provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Nghe An... are still stable at around 69,000 - 73,000 VND/kg.
According to traders, supply in this area is still abundant, while demand has not increased significantly, leading to the possibility of continued price adjustments in the coming time.
Southern pig price
The live hog market in the South recorded a slight decrease of VND1,000/kg in some provinces and cities. However, the price of live hogs in this region is still higher than in the North and Central regions.
- Binh Duong, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Hau Giang: reduced to 72,000 - 73,000 VND/kg
- Ca Mau, Soc Trang, Kien Giang, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh: remain at 73,000 - 75,000 VND/kg, no significant change
Although prices have stabilized, experts say domestic demand has yet to show clear signs of recovery. In particular, the second quarter is often a quiet period for the food processing industry.
According to the Vietnam Livestock Association, in March, live pig prices were affected by a sharp increase in supply after Tet, while purchasing power in the market has not improved significantly. Large livestock enterprises have not yet adjusted their selling prices, preventing the market from increasing.
Currently, some processing enterprises are proposing to reduce input material purchase prices to maintain profits, in the context of increasing output costs. Without a reasonable solution to regulate supply, pig prices in April may continue to be under deep downward pressure.
Dong Nai tightens disease prevention in livestock and poultry
Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee has just issued Plan No. 66 on disease prevention and control in livestock, poultry and aquatic products in 2025.
The goal of the plan is to control, contain and quickly suppress epidemics when they arise, prevent the risk of spreading new diseases, ensure production, protect public health and develop the economy and society.
According to the plan, localities in the province need to proactively develop plans and allocate funding for implementation. At the same time, it is necessary to fully prepare human resources, equipment and means necessary for epidemic prevention and control, ensuring readiness to respond in all situations.
Along with that, applying biosafety measures, regular cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of the livestock environment is a mandatory requirement.
Livestock farming households must also be fully vaccinated with all required vaccines as prescribed. Particularly for poor households and small-scale livestock farmers in high-risk areas and old epidemic areas, the government will organize free vaccinations for some important diseases.
In addition, the plan also requires localities to proactively monitor the epidemic situation in livestock, poultry, aquatic products and dangerous infectious diseases that can be transmitted to humans. At the same time, organize propaganda and training programs to raise people's awareness of disease prevention.
