Ha Long tourism is deserted during Lunar New Year

Since the first day of the Lunar New Year 2024 until now, many main roads of Ha Long City have been deserted because shops are closed, and tourists are nowhere to be seen.

According to Thanh Nien reporters' observations at Bai Chay Tourist Area (Ha Long City), hundreds of restaurants and hotels are closed and have posted notices of a long Lunar New Year holiday.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Loc, CEO of Halong Manlonis Hotel, said: "Usually, during the Lunar New Year, hotels and restaurants in the Bai Chay area close for a long time. Mostly because there are no tourists renting rooms, and human resources are very difficult because most workers return to their hometowns."

Many services and shops are closed for a long time.

"After the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ha Long tourism market is only bustling in the summer, from April to September. After that, many hotels' business is sluggish due to lack of guests."

The closure of hotels and restaurants has left tourists scrambling to find a place to eat and stay during this time. Tourists have a hard time finding quality restaurants open, and instead have to look for sidewalk stalls.

Ms. Nguyen Quynh Lan (38 years old, a tourist from Hanoi) said: "Many famous restaurants in Ha Long City are closed this time. We drove our personal car around Bai Chay area and the central wards of Ha Long City but could not find any open restaurants. After dozens of kilometers of searching on the road, the whole family had to choose a sidewalk restaurant in Tran Hung Dao Ward."

Bai Chay streets are deserted, many restaurants and shops are temporarily closed.

According to statistics from the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism, there are over 20,000 hotel rooms in Ha Long City; meanwhile, during the cold season and weekends, Ha Long only welcomes about 3,000 - 5,000 visitors per day.

The "winter break" situation always occurs from December to March of the following year for many hotels and restaurants. Because, businesses believe that when coming to Ha Long, besides visiting the World Natural Heritage Ha Long Bay, other tourism products are poor.

The whole tourist area has clean roads and beautiful beaches but not a single tourist or tourist vehicle passing by.

In 2024, Quang Ninh province strives to attract at least 17 million tourists, higher than the time of the Covid-19 pandemic; including 3 million international visitors.

To achieve this goal, Quang Ninh province plans to organize 186 programs, events, and activities to stimulate tourism in the area.

Accordingly, 26 programs, events, and activities to stimulate international, national, and provincial tourism; and 160 programs, events, and activities to stimulate local tourism will be organized.
