Rolls Royce, Benley, Mercedes, Lamborghini and dozens of rugged off-road vehicles lie quietly in the huge garage of Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu in M'Drak (Dak Lak). Few people have seen this car warehouse with their own eyes. The owner estimates that there are nearly... 500 cars!

Mr. Vu's farm in M'drak is about 500 hectares wide, located between Buon Ma Thuot city (Dak Lak province) and the coastal city of Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa province). It is a valley surrounded by green hills and mountains.

Mr. Vu’s residence is a small dot in a vast farm, with rivers, streams, lakes, a horse farm and always fragrant with aromatic plants waiting to be harvested, including lemongrass, cajuput, and agarwood for agarwood… The garage is located next to the horse farm. Cars and horses are his two hobbies, symbols of masculinity. His cars are also luxurious and powerful.

The garage is a row of prefabricated, corrugated iron-roofed buildings, very large and without fences or doors, containing about 400 - 500 cars. Well, all sizes and types. The feeling is very... overwhelming!

Starting with the Rolls Royces. They were parked neatly along the aisle, about 30 of them: Rolls Royce Cullinan, Rolls Royce Wraith, Rolls Royce Phantom, Rolls Royce Boat Tail, Rolls Royce Ghost… All masculine cars. I didn’t see any of these cars being as luxurious as the Rolls Royce Limousine or Rolls Royce Dawn.

Opposite the Rolls Royce row is a row of Mercedes, German-British Wolkswagen, Italian Ferari... A few dozen cars in a long row. Behind the two rows of cars in this aisle are dozens of rows of cars on each side, of all brands and types.

You can see here expensive million dollar cars such as: Mercedes-AMG G63, Ford F-150, Mustang, Dodge, Porsche Panamera Turbo S, Ferrari 355, 488 Pista, F8, 458 Speciale, Porsche 911, Lamborghini Urus, Audi... and also hypercars such as McLaren Senna, Porsche 918 Spyder, Ford GT... are also preserved here.

The garage has 1-2 people looking after it, mainly to wipe away dust (however, the large garage is mostly covered in a layer of dust). Maintenance will be done by a team of professional workers periodically invited from Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition to this garage, Mr. Vu has another garage in Ho Chi Minh City, where he keeps the cars he often drives when he returns to the city. Notably, many of these million-dollar cars are left outside in the yard, without a roof.

Car enthusiasts estimate that Mr. Vu's fleet of cars is worth about 1,000 billion VND, including many very rare cars.

Mr. Vu’s residence is isolated from the garage. It is always quiet, with only the rustling of the wind and rustling of the leaves. Right at the entrance are a few cars discreetly parked under the trees. The car bodies have the letters UN in black. The road to his residence is paved with stone slabs, winding around a large, flat lake. He lives in a cave on a hilltop, overlooking the lake and the open space around it. He still uses the first person singular pronoun “qua” when communicating.

He served me a strong, fragrant espresso, a glass of mineral water and a few familiar cigars. I asked him about the meaning of the letter UN, which is often seen on Trung Nguyen Legend cars.

He was calm but enthusiastic: “That is the United Nations. A country that wants to grow strong, wants to become a leading country to help other countries, must know how to utilize the power of the intermediary institution of the United Nations.” The desire to bring Vietnam and the Vietnamese people to the world always burns in this special person.

“Everyone knows that Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu has many cars, many luxury cars. So how many cars does he have?”, I asked. He smiled: “There are a lot, but I don’t know exactly, probably about 500 cars.”

20 years ago, in 2004, he drove me to lunch in a classic Phantom. It was a very enjoyable feeling. I remembered that feeling and asked: “Among the cars you often drive, which one do you like the most?”. He seemed a little surprised and laughed out loud: “No, I don’t love anything. I bought it just like that, I didn’t even look at it. For the past 10 years, I just left it there, didn’t look at it…”.

I asked him curiously if he had driven all the cars. He did not answer directly but said, “There are some cars that have not been touched for 7-8 years.” So what did he buy so many cars for, I wondered? For media purposes, like the Range Rover fleet or to drive beauty queens to give books to young people in the program “Journey to the Heart”?

He explained: To him, a car is not an asset but a “consumable”, that is, for consumption. If it were an asset, “just the maintenance would cost a lot of money”.

I asked Mr. Vu: “So what is the mission of those cars?”. He said slowly: “We will auction them later to help young people start businesses. Anything that is past will have a different price later.”

Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu is a special person, his fleet of cars is also special. Some people ask him why he doesn't sell his fleet of cars to help the poor, he doesn't seem to care about this question. He doesn't want to help anyone in particular. He just wants to help a generation of young people who have the desire and ambition to think rich, get rich and become an influential country in the world.

“What is a lot of money for?”, his famous rhetorical question is explained here: To help young people start businesses, to become a powerful nation.
