According to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), at around 22:52 on January 15, an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 occurred on the eastern shore of Lake Baikal, Russia.
The epicenter was initially determined to be at 54.88 degrees North latitude and 109.68 degrees East longitude with a focal depth of 10km.
There is currently no information on damage or casualties after the earthquake. It may take several hours for authorities to conduct a comprehensive damage assessment.
Minor aftershocks may occur in the coming days.
