In 2014, Mr. Tran Ngoc Phuong (Duong Trung village, Tra Duong commune, Bac Tra My) enlisted in the anti-aircraft artillery unit stationed in Gia Lai province. In 2016, Mr. Phuong completed his military service and returned to his hometown.
This March, through the Military Command of Bac Tra My district, Mr. Phuong went to the Transaction Office of the District Social Policy Bank and received a preferential loan of 100 million VND to plant acacia.
“My family has 5 hectares of forest but has not cultivated it for many years. With the loan from the policy bank, I will invest in planting acacia, hoping for a stable income,” said Mr. Phuong.
In 2022, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Quy (Duong Thanh village, Tra Duong commune) was discharged from the army and returned to his hometown after 2 years of completing his police service at the Provincial Police Detention Center. For more than 3 years, Mr. Quy has been working as a driver but his income has been unstable.
“I went to the Military Command of Bac Tra My district to ask for help with preferential loans and was contacted by the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office to borrow 100 million VND. With the capital, I focused on planting acacia forests on an area of 6 hectares to have a long-term livelihood,” said Mr. Quy.
Mr. Ho Ngoc Tien - Deputy Director of the Transaction Office of the Social Policy Bank of Bac Tra My district said that recently, many young people who completed their military service and returned to their hometowns did not have stable jobs due to lack of capital.
From there, the Transaction Office of the Bac Tra My District Social Policy Bank coordinated with the District Military Command, commune authorities, and representatives of associations and organizations to review the loan needs and business loan plans of young people completing their military and police service.
The District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office has proposed to the People's Committee of Bac Tra My District to allocate the budget to lend to young people who have completed their military service and police service and has been allocated 1.6 billion VND. In addition, the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office has allocated a portion of the loan capital from the job creation loan program for young people who have completed their military service and police service to borrow capital.
“The outstanding loan balance for young people who have completed their military service and returned from the police is 2.1 billion VND with 25 customers. We continue to promote lending because of the practicality that this credit policy brings,” said Mr. Tien.
Mr. Hoang Thanh Lan - Deputy Director of the Bank for Social Policies, Quang Nam branch, said that in the province, there are currently 41 young people who have completed their military service and returned from the police who have received loans to create jobs with a total outstanding loan of 3.5 billion VND.
“We closely coordinate with local authorities, associations and organizations to promote preferential credit; review young people who need loans for business; appraise and select the right borrowers and focus on checking and monitoring the effective use of loans after disbursement,” said Mr. Lan.
