Repair and deliver boats to Mijak people
The Mijak area is called Mijak County (according to the administrative unit here), which is administered by Mr. Luar Mayol. Below the County are the Payam (equivalent to the district level) including Tajalei, Lou and Abethok.
Mijak/Majak (boat landing) is the center of Mijak County. It has a population of about 4,500 people. Their main occupation is farming and fishing on the river. In addition, river travel is also one of the main activities of the people here in the areas during their lives, and is a daily necessity.
Helping people repair boats has brought many positive impacts, serving the most essential needs of local people for the purpose of serving daily life and earning a living here. Up to now, the Vietnam Engineering Team No. 2 has repaired 4 boats for the community in the Mijak village area.
At the boat handover ceremony held on August 26, on behalf of the Mijak community, Mr. Luar Mayol, in charge of managing the Mijak area, said: “We are very grateful for the support of the Vietnam Engineering Team in the past time. Your actions have brought positive impacts to help the people here, improve living conditions, and support transportation.”
Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Viet Hung, Captain of the Vietnamese Engineer Team, affirmed: “All of us, all those who are living and working in Abyei, whether Abyei people, peacekeepers, whether present or not at today's ceremony, must always remember that we are living together in the Common House of Abyei and together, we will bring peace to Abyei.”
Food, medicine, clothing aid for Abyei Hospital
Abyei Hospital is one of the major hospitals in the Abyei region, under the direct management of the Minister of Health. Currently, the hospital has only 3 doctors, 4 nurses and 11 volunteers working, but the hospital receives more than 160 patients every day. Therefore, the hospital is seriously lacking in doctors with qualified technical expertise, the infrastructure is deteriorating due to lack of financial conditions for renovation, along with the number of patients always increasing due to many factors related to political security, living environment, etc.

In addition, the hospital is still lacking in many medicines and medicinal materials due to limited supply and difficulties in transportation. Many equipment and machinery are not used due to limited professional qualifications, which has also caused significant impacts, leading to some departments working ineffectively, such as the Laboratory Department.
Faced with the difficult situation of the Hospital, the Vietnam Engineering Team has regularly organized activities to visit and provide food, medicine, and clothing to patients being treated here. Recently, the Team has organized many gifts for the Hospital including: Intestinal antibiotics; antibiotics for ear, nose, and throat, pneumonia, and skin wounds; vitamins; wound antiseptics; anti-flu gargle; cotton, bandages, and medical gauze; dry food; rice; fruit juice; and clothes.
Flood relief support in Abyei area
Due to the weather conditions in the area at the peak of the rainy season, with prolonged rains. In the last days of August, there was a heavy rain lasting from 8pm to 3am local time, causing localized flooding in some areas in the center of Abyei, forcing many people to evacuate to other areas because their houses were flooded and uninhabitable.
Immediately, the Vietnam Army Corps of Engineers received an urgent request from the local community regarding this issue. The government temporarily established a Flood Control Committee headed by Mr. Nyinkuany Aguer Bol – Minister of Education and Mr. Deng Kiir Mater – Minister of Infrastructure as Deputy Head to respond to the above situation.

Considering the urgent situation, Deputy Team Leader, Lieutenant Colonel Vu Tri Xuyen, together with Team Leader of the Bridge and Road Team, Major Vu Van Quan, conducted a survey with the local authorities and proposed a suitable solution. The local support force quickly arrived at the scene and dredged 300m of the blocked water ditch to clear the flow; and replaced 10m of the old, degraded pipeline with new, larger steel pipes.
As of now, the situation has improved, more than 20 households have been able to return home. However, the Engineering Team continues to handle other drainage channels within the area to ensure the best for all areas while the rains continue.
Paint the roof in the shape of the Vietnamese flag.
At Highway base, the Vietnam Peacekeeping Engineer Team painted the national flag on the roof of module 3, covering an area of nearly 100 square meters, to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, September 2.

The national flag is located in front of the entrance gate, easily visible from the road leading to the base. Despite having to face sudden and prolonged rains that caused the paint to fade, the officers and staff of the Team quickly completed the flag in just 5 days. This is not only a welcome to international friends to the base of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Engineer Team, but also an affirmation of the national pride of each officer and soldier of the blue berets who are performing their duties in Abyei.
