At the Forum “Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership - What opportunities for businesses” on November 10, Mr. Ho Ky Minh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, said that up to now, the city has 81 investment projects from the United States, with a total capital of more than 487.85 million USD. Of which, 19 are information technology projects with a total capital of more than 63.8 million USD.
“The fields in which US businesses have strengths are also the fields in which Da Nang city wants to attract investment, such as information technology, high-tech manufacturing, automation, semiconductor industry, artificial intelligence, supporting industry, healthcare, education, tourism real estate…”, Mr. Minh said.
On the Quang Nam side, Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu said that the United States is the province's largest export market with a proportion of about 56.2% in 2022. Some of the main export items are garment products, leather shoes, wood, light bulbs, electronic chips, fibers, camping tents, auto parts and components...
However, the results of attracting US FDI in Quang Nam province are still quite modest. To date, Quang Nam province has only 7 US FDI projects with a total registered capital of 5.86 million USD. Projects of US investors were mainly granted in the period from 2021 onwards, from 2022 to present, businesses from the US coming to learn about the investment environment in Quang Nam province are quite limited.
In April 2023, an American company came to learn and work with the leaders of Quang Nam province on investment research for a project to produce biodiesel, animal feed and organic fertilizer from water hyacinth.
“In the coming time, the province will orient investment promotion to establish the Quang Nam - USA Industrial Park in the province, with priority given to attracting the semiconductor industry and digital economic sectors such as ICT industry, digital technology, nanotechnology, biological industry, new materials, clean energy…”, Mr. Buu shared.
Speaking at the forum, US Ambassador Marc E. Knapper emphasized that Vietnam is one of the major partners of the United States. The relationship between Vietnam and the United States has never been stronger. The two countries have reached agreements to promote the semiconductor industry to help Vietnam participate in the global supply chain; establish a working group related to semiconductor technology investment, technology support, human resource training, etc.
Citing the success of the Boeing aircraft parts factory in Da Nang, the Ambassador said: “We look forward to seeing more US investment projects in Da Nang and Quang Nam. We will support Vietnam to become a high-income country by 2045 and transform into a digital economy.”
