That is the sharing of experts in the online TV consulting program with the topic "Taking advantage of vocational training after secondary school" broadcast online at thanhnien.vn, Facebook fanpage, YouTube channel, TikTok of Thanh Nien Newspaper.
SAVE TIME AND COSTS
In 2023, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the city will have 109,617 9th graders completing junior high school, while the target for 10th graders in public high schools is only 77,294. Thus, more than 30,000 remaining students will have to turn to other directions. One of those directions is to register for vocational training at intermediate schools or intermediate level in colleges.
At the consultation program, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tho, Director of the General Program of Viet Khoa School, commented: "In the past, society had the concept that studying at university would make you a teacher, and studying a trade would make you a worker. However, no matter what you study, you are all aiming to have a job, a career, a stable profession to have an income. The important thing is to study which program is suitable for the student himself, not that studying at the highest level is the best."
Experts shared a lot of useful information about vocational training for students after secondary school at the consultation session on the afternoon of May 16.
According to Mr. Tho, by registering for vocational training after junior high school, students will only need 3 years to get an intermediate diploma and 1 more year to get a college diploma. "During the intermediate course, students will study the 4-subject cultural program in parallel with the vocational program according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. In particular, the state has a policy to support the intermediate program tuition for students. If they study in college, they only have to pay tuition for 2 semesters at a relatively low rate, about more than 1 million VND/month," Mr. Tho shared.
Specifically, students will study 3 compulsory subjects including math, literature, history and a 4th subject suitable for the field of study that students are pursuing. For example, for technical majors, students will study physics. For students who are "afraid" of studying cultural subjects, this amount of study will reduce the pressure a lot compared to studying the 7-subject regular education program or the high school program.
Ms. Pham Hong Loan, Director of the Center for Personal Brand Development at Viet Khoa School, added: "If you study a trade, by the age of 19-20, you will have a secondary or college degree to enter the labor market, while if you follow the high school and university path, you will have to be 22 to start working. Shortening time, saving costs and starting work early are significant advantages. The most important thing is that you choose the right major."
Every year, the demand for human resources in Ho Chi Minh City for people with college and secondary school degrees is 38%.
MANY ATTRACTIVE FIELDS OF STUDY, HAVE JOBS IMMEDIATELY
Ms. Pham Hong Loan said that at Viet Khoa School in particular and the vocational education system in Ho Chi Minh City in general, there are many majors suitable for junior high school graduates and these are also majors that the labor market is in great need of.
"The school offers training in five majors: economics (business administration, accounting), engineering (automotive engineering technology), technology (information technology and graphic design), languages (English, Japanese) and tourism services (hotel and restaurant management, culinary arts, tourism and travel services management). It can be said that these majors are very "hot", businesses always have a large recruitment demand, so graduates will have jobs right away," Ms. Hong Loan shared.
As the person directly connecting with businesses, Mr. Nguyen Tien Danh, Director of the Center for Employment Support and Business Relations, said: "With the characteristic of 70% of the time being practice and 30% theory, the vocational training program helps students have good practical skills and professional skills, so businesses are very welcoming. Students have semesters right at the business to both study and gain practical experience, so after graduation, it is easy to access jobs."
Ho Chi Minh City aims to attract 45-50% of students to vocational training by 2030
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued a plan to implement the Vocational Education Development Strategy for the period 2023 - 2030, with a vision to 2045.
