On May 16, the wrestling competition ended. As a result, the Vietnamese wrestling team won 13 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal, leading the entire delegation.
My Hanh (blue shirt) won gold medal in 62kg weight class
This is not a surprising achievement because Vietnamese wrestlers have long been superior to other countries in the region.
Among the 13 gold medals of the wrestling team, there are 2 very special gold medals, belonging to Nguyen Thi My Hanh (62kg) and Nguyen Thi My Trang (57kg).
Hanh and Trang are two sisters, both of whom won gold medals at the 31st SEA Games held at home.
By successfully defending the above achievement, the two Hue athletes made history by becoming the first two sisters in history to win gold medals at two consecutive SEA Games.
The two younger sisters My Tien and My Linh are also wrestlers, training at the Thua Thien Hue Sports Training Center and are considered to have potential.
In the Vietnamese sports village, there is almost no family with 4 members playing the same sport.
“Hanh is strong in attack, aggressive, wins and wins. Trang is better in defense, plays like a stick.
Meanwhile, Linh is more comprehensive than the two sisters, her strength and speed are also better, so in the future I think she can surpass them in terms of expertise," coach Dinh Van Kien, coach of the Thua Thien - Hue wrestling team, once commented on the Hanh sisters.
Hanh first came to wrestling when she was 13 years old after her cousin invited her to practice.
Because her family is poor and has many siblings, she wants to pursue a sports career to help her parents.
Thanks to her efforts and natural talent, the girl from Quang Dien made rapid progress in her professional skills and only 3 years later was on the youth team and then the national team.
In 2011, Hanh dragged My Trang (2001) to practice with her, then My Linh (2005), My Tien (2006) followed in her footsteps.
