The 54th WEF Davos Annual Meeting is expected to bring together many of the world's leading names to dialogue and discuss cooperation, aiming to solve many urgent global issues, including economic growth, climate and nature action, energy security, technology governance and human development.
“We face a fractured world and growing social divisions, leading to widespread uncertainty and pessimism,” said Professor Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the WEF. “We must rebuild confidence in our future by moving beyond crisis management, examining the root causes of current problems and working together to build a more promising future,” Professor Schwab added.
This year’s conference will address the latest global developments and seek to develop innovative, practical solutions to restore and reimagine the cooperation needed to promote resilience and security.
According to the announcement, the WEF Davos 2024 Conference has received confirmation of attendance from about 3,000 delegates, including 70 national leaders, 250 ministers, 2,500 leaders of corporations, international organizations and many prestigious experts and scholars.

Some of the hot topics that are expected to attract special attention include: Security and cooperation in a fractured world; Creating growth and jobs for the new era; Artificial intelligence as a driving force for the economy and society; Long-term strategies on climate, nature and energy.
The rapid development of technology, especially AI, is likely to take center stage in the discussions, along with other topics around “cooperation in a fractured world”, “jobs for the new era” and “climate, nature and energy strategies”.
Themed “Rebuilding Trust,” the conference website states, “The program embodies the spirit of returning to the basics of open and constructive dialogue between government, business and civil society leaders. The goal is to help connect the actors in an increasingly complex environment, while providing new perspectives, by showcasing the latest advances in science, industry and society.”
WEF is a non-profit organization operating in the form of public-private partnership, founded in 1971 by Professor Klaus Schwab, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
WEF currently has about 700 partners who are leaders of the world's leading corporations in various fields. WEF member partners must pay a membership fee ranging from 60,000 to 600,000 Swiss Francs, depending on the different levels.
WEF was one of the first forums to discuss the Fourth Industrial Revolution and is currently implementing a number of specific and substantive initiatives related to it, such as the Fourth Industrial Revolution Centers in the United States, India and Japan and the Cybersecurity Center with the participation of 92 partners.
The most important event of WEF is the Annual Meeting held every January in Davos. In addition, there are regional forums: WEF Tianjin (or Dalian, China), WEF ASEAN... WEF events attract the participation of the world's leading political, business, cultural, social, research - academic leaders... to shape the agenda at the regional and global levels.
In its relentless work, WEF Davos has proven its effectiveness with many practical results. For example, in 1988, WEF successfully brokered peace between Greece and Türkiye, leading to the signing of the Davos Declaration. Most recently, Davos has also been the launching pad for Gavi, the vaccine alliance, which plays an important role in providing Covid-19 vaccines to underdeveloped and developing countries.
Famous for its skiing, the Swiss Alpine town becomes the focus of the planet's attention every New Year's Eve - where the world's elite gather to tackle the pressing questions of the age.
Vietnam and WEF relations increasingly close Since Vietnam and WEF established relations in 1989, cooperation has been promoted and developed in many fields by leaders of both sides. Vietnam has attended the WEF Davos Annual Meeting at the Prime Minister level four times (2007, 2010, 2017, 2019) (other years usually attended at the Deputy Prime Minister level); attended the WEF ASEAN Meeting (before 2016, it was WEF East Asia) at the Prime Minister level four times (2012, 2013, 2014 and 2017) (other years usually attended at the Deputy Prime Minister level). Vietnamese and WEF leaders will promote high-level contacts and exchanges, especially between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and WEF Founder and Executive Chairman Professor Klaus Schwab at the WEF Tianjin Conference (June 2023), the 41st ASEAN Summit (November 2022) and the 43rd (September 2023). On June 26, 2023, at the WEF Tianjin Conference, the two sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Vietnam - WEF cooperation for the period 2023-2026 under the witness of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Professor Klaus Schwab, which is an important foundation to promote bilateral cooperation in the new period. The MOU focuses on cooperation in six areas: Innovation in the food sector; Developing innovation and green transformation skills; Industrial clusters towards net zero emissions; Promoting plastic actions, including the Global Partnership for Plastics Action Programme (GPAP); Financing for renewable energy transition; Cooperation in digital transformation and promoting the establishment of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR). Vietnam and WEF have also coordinated to organize many important conferences: The first National Strategic Dialogue (CSD) between Vietnam and WEF (October 29, 2021) was held in both direct and online formats with the theme "Strengthening public-private partnerships: A key driver of comprehensive recovery and sustainable, inclusive and innovative development" . The dialogue is considered the most successful national strategic dialogue that WEF has coordinated with a country to organize, in terms of participation level, content, timing and organization. At the 2023 WEF Tianjin Conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh co-chaired the 2nd National Strategy Dialogue (June 26, 2023) with the theme "Promoting new growth drivers to create the country's future". Vietnam hosted the WEF ASEAN 2018 in Hanoi from September 11-13, 2018, the first WEF - Mekong Conference on October 25, 2016 in Hanoi and the WEF East Asia Conference from June 6-7, 2010 in Ho Chi Minh City. |
