Through monitoring and grasping the developments in traffic order and safety (ATGT) in the area, the Traffic Safety Committee of Quang Tri province has just issued a document requesting the Provincial People's Committee to consider allowing investment in 7 traffic light clusters to handle and overcome 7 potential black spots for traffic accidents in Dong Ha city, Quang Tri town and Trieu Phong and Gio Linh districts.
Specifically, Dong Ha City has 3 traffic black spots that need to be handled: the intersection of Le Loi - Dai Co Viet - Nguyen Huu Khieu streets; the intersection of Le Thanh Tong - Tran Binh Trong streets; the intersection of Dang Dung - Ngo Sy Lien streets.
Trieu Phong district has a traffic black spot at the intersection of the Southeast Economic Zone's longitudinal axis road - district road DH.43.
Quang Tri town has two traffic black spots: the intersection of Hai Ba Trung - Le Hong Phong street and the intersection of Tran Hung Dao - Le Hong Phong street.
Gio Linh district has a traffic black spot that needs to be handled at the intersection of km0+120/National Highway 9 - Nguyen Huu Tho Street, Cua Viet town.
Accordingly, the Traffic Safety Committee proposed a solution to organize traffic using traffic lights to avoid conflicts between lanes; supplement the road marking and sign system in accordance with Vietnamese standards on road signs QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT.
The total estimated cost of handling the above 7 black traffic spots is about 7.9 billion VND, of which the capital source for ensuring traffic order and safety in 2024 and 2025 is 1.9 billion VND; the provincial budget is 4 billion VND; and other capital sources are 2 billion VND.
According to Director of the Department of Transport Tran Huu Hung, in recent years, the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in Quang Tri province has had positive changes. However, traffic accidents on national highways, inner-city roads, and intersections remain high, especially at intersections with high traffic density, traffic at the same level, traffic organized by painted lines and signs, causing frustration among the people. Voters have repeatedly made recommendations but have not been resolved.
Recently, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee established an inspection team and found that at some intersections, due to the increasing density of vehicles, traffic organization using painted lines, signs, etc. is no longer suitable, causing traffic safety loss, traffic congestion, and many traffic accidents and collisions have occurred at intersections, causing great damage to people and property.
To improve the capacity of traffic infrastructure, enhance the ability to guide and divide traffic flows, contribute to ensuring traffic safety and order, and at the same time eliminate black spots and potential traffic accident spots, ensuring safety for people and vehicles traveling through these intersections, the arrangement of traffic control lights is very necessary.
