Although the defending runner-up, India is not really strong and is considered inferior to Vietnam. Looking at the achievements in this year's season, the team only had a narrow victory over Australia with a score of 3-2. In the previous season, the participating teams were not really strong, the defending champion did not even qualify this year.
On the Vietnamese side, the team is facing two historic achievements if it successfully wins the championship. Vietnamese volleyball will have its first continental championship in history at the official national team level. This will also be the first time that Vietnam steps out of its shell and appears on the world stage.
Round 1: Vietnam won 25-17 India
Against a not-so-strong opponent, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet did not field his strongest lineup but still left captain Thanh Thuy on the field, partly to respect the opponent, partly to help Vietnam's number 1 hitter maintain his ball sense, and partly to be a mental support for his teammates.
Only when Thanh Thuy was far ahead of her opponent was she taken off the field to rest and give her teammates a chance to shine again. Under the overwhelming attack of Vietnam, the current runner-up India quickly surrendered with a score of 17-25.
Round 2: Vietnam won 25-18 India
In the second half, the players who had not played were replaced in the main squad. The main players were kept for the final match tomorrow, and the remaining two rounds were just formalities to end the match. With the reserve squad, the Vietnamese team showed many weaknesses but gradually improved after the coach's reminders. Finally, Vietnam ended the second half with a gap of 25-18.
Game 3: Vietnam wins 25-21 India
After conceding two goals, India went all out in the third quarter and played on par with the Vietnamese reserve team. After half a quarter, India not only kept close to the score but also took the lead 13-12.
Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet then adjusted the lineup by bringing captain Thanh Thuy back to the field. The match ended shortly after with a 25-21 victory for Vietnam. Thus, Vietnam officially entered the final match of the 2023 Asian Challenger Cup women's event.
Facing Vietnam in the final is host Indonesia, the match will take place at 7:00 p.m. tonight, June 25.
In addition to the championship, the winning team in the final will receive a ticket to the 2023 World Challenger Cup. At the world stage, the champion team will get the only wild card to the 2024 Volleyball Nations League - the world's top volleyball tournament for national teams.
