"The funeral of Mr. Navalny will take place at 2 p.m. on March 1 at the Cathedral of the Icon of the Mother of God in the Maryino district of Moscow," Kira Yarmysh, a spokeswoman for Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny, posted on social network X on February 28, calling on attendees to arrive early.

Navalny's mother, Lyudmila Navalnaya, said Russian authorities asked her to hold a secret funeral for her son, but she refused.
Speaking at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France today, Mr Navalny's wife, Yulia Navalnaya, said her husband's body showed signs of abuse and she was unsure whether his funeral would be able to proceed smoothly.
Russian officials have not yet commented on this information.
Navalny, a former lawyer, led the opposition Russian People's Union party from 2019 to 2021 and led numerous anti-government protests. He was arrested in Moscow in January 2021, sentenced to a total of about 30 years in prison on charges of participating in extremism and other crimes, and transferred to IK-3 in late 2023.
