Building and developing a reading culture among youth and children
In the age of rapid digital technology development, many people think that books have become outdated. However, no matter how modern technology is, books still hold an important position in people's spiritual life. Because books are not only a source of knowledge, but also a part of culture, a bridge between the past, present and future. In order to spread the love of reading, form reading habits and skills for the young generation, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism launched the preliminary round of the "Reading Culture Ambassador" Contest in 2025. This is an opportunity for children to express their love for books, share inspirational stories and contribute initiatives to promote the development of reading culture in the community.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Truong Ba Trang, the contest is open to all primary, secondary and high school students and other types of education in An Giang province. Entries must fully answer the two questions posed in the exam, with healthy, pure content that is in line with Vietnamese customs and culture. The contest is conducted in the form of an article or video. Contestants are encouraged to share recently published books that are topical, have topics close to life, and express the aspiration to build a prosperous, happy and prosperous country.
Entries must be the contestants' own creative work (videos must be performed by the contestants themselves, including voiceover and narration), and have not been submitted for display, exhibition, publication, or internet use, or entered into any contest. In cases where content, excerpts, quotes, pictures, images, etc. of others are used in the entry, the source must be fully cited. Contest videos using images, songs, or audio must comply with regulations on intellectual property rights, copyright, and related rights; contestants are responsible for any legal disputes related to copyright infringement (if any).
The contest will be launched from March to June 20, 2025. Contestants will send their entries to An Giang Provincial Library (No. 16, Le Trieu Kiet, My Binh Ward, Long Xuyen City); the envelope will clearly state “Preliminary Round of the 2025 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest”. The results are expected to be announced and prizes awarded in September 2025. Detailed information about the contest is posted on the fanpage at: https://www.facebook.com/angianglibrary/ and the Provincial Library's information page: https://thuvien.angiang.gov.vn/.
The reading culture contest helps students form and develop the habit of reading. Through activities such as: book introduction, story telling, speed reading contest, etc., students have the opportunity to approach many different genres of books, stimulating their own interests. When the habit of reading is formed, students will voluntarily seek out books as a companion, helping them relieve stress, expand their knowledge and develop their thinking. At the same time, it contributes to improving students' thinking, creativity and expression. Reading helps students acquire a rich vocabulary, practice the ability to analyze, synthesize and evaluate information. From there, they can confidently express their personal opinions, express themselves coherently and fluently in learning and communication.
In addition, the contest will create an environment for students to exchange, learn and share experiences. When participating in the contest, students will have the opportunity to meet and chat with friends who share the same interest in reading, explore good books together, share deep feelings about characters and details in books, helping them learn a lot of knowledge, skills and valuable experiences and nurture their souls and build their personalities. Thereby, contributing to building a generation of young Vietnamese people rich in knowledge and beautiful souls.
