National Economics University re-divides admission groups

VnExpressVnExpress21/02/2024

Instead of dividing the combined admission candidates into two groups, the National Economics University (NEU) divided them into three groups, separating ACT, SAT and domestic exam results.

Nearly two months after announcing the 2024 enrollment plan, the National Economics University changed the way candidates are divided into groups in the combined admission method according to the school's own plan.

Initially, candidates were divided into two groups. Group 1 was candidates who registered for admission based on SAT or ACT scores; HSA and APT scores of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City National Universities; TSA scores of Hanoi University of Science and Technology; or a combination of English certificate scores and one of the three types of test scores mentioned above. The quota for this group was 50%.

Group 2 is for candidates who use high school graduation exam scores combined with international English certificates, accounting for 30% of the target.

Today's adjustment decision re-divides group 1. National Economics University separates candidates using SAT, ACT for admission into a separate group; the rest are candidates using the results of three domestic exams (HSA, APT, TSA) for admission independently or in combination with international English certificates.

The targets for the two groups are 5 and 45% respectively. The total targets and conditions to ensure the input quality threshold remain unchanged.

Admission score is the certificate score converted to a 30-point scale with priority points (if any).

TT Certificate Minimum score to apply
1 SAT 1,200/1,600
2 ACT 26/36
3 HSA 85/150
4 APT 700/1,200
5 TSA 60/100
6 IELTS 5.5/9.0
7 TOEFL iBT 46/120
8 TOEIC 4 skills Listening - Reading: 785; Speaking: 160; Writing: 150

Explaining, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Duc Trieu, Head of Training Management Department, said that when issuing the enrollment plan, the National Economics University aimed to streamline the groups according to the general requirements of the Ministry.

However, the school found that there was a difference in the conversion of scores of certificates in the admission process. For example, the minimum score to accept applications from candidates using SAT is 1200/1600, after conversion is 22.5 points on a scale of 30. Meanwhile, the minimum score for candidates using HSA, APT and TSA only fluctuates between 17-18 points.

"The number of candidates who pass the SAT every year is not much, only a few dozen, and then they also study abroad, but to ensure maximum benefits for all candidates and help them not be confused, we decided to adjust the project," said Mr. Trieu.

Other contents of the enrollment plan remain the same.

Accordingly, the National Economics University will enroll 6,200 students, the same as last year. The three admission methods are direct admission (accounting for 2% of the total enrollment target), graduation exam scores (18%), and combined admission according to a separate project.

For candidates using the scores of three subjects in the 2024 high school graduation exam for admission, the expected minimum score for candidates to submit their application is 20.

If the admission is based on a separate project, except for groups 1 and 2 whose conditions have been announced above, group 3 is candidates who combine their graduation exam scores with international English certificates. Candidates will use the converted certificate scores to replace the English exam scores in the admission combination. The admission score is the total score of the two graduation exams plus the converted certificate score and priority points (if any).
