After the incident of the Vietnamese youth table tennis team athletes (under the management of the Hanoi National Sports Training Center, but living and training at the My Dinh National Sports Complex - abbreviated as the complex) not being guaranteed nutrition, having to eat meals lacking in quality and quantity compared to the standard of 320,000 VND/day prescribed by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Physical Training and Sports have stepped in to verify the incident, thoroughly investigate to ensure the rights of the athletes, and handle individuals and organizations that lack responsibility causing consequences.
After 1 month of verification, based on the written explanations of relevant parties such as the high-performance sports departments of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, the Hanoi National Sports Training Center, and the complex, the sports industry decided to review the complex for not fulfilling its responsibilities.
The person in charge of the kitchen of the Vietnam youth table tennis team at the complex was fired and transferred to another department. The specialized department with the function and task of managing the Vietnam youth table tennis team of the Department of Sports and Physical Training temporarily no longer performs the function of managing this team.
Young athletes' meals are more nutritious and filling.
After the incident of the Vietnamese youth table tennis team's poor meals was published, the Department of Sports and Physical Training directed not to summon coach Bui Xuan Ha to the team, and at the same time sent the coaching staff and players back to live and practice at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi.
Since returning to the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi, the Vietnamese youth table tennis team has received better nutrition.
According to Thanh Nien Newspaper, since moving to the center, the meals of the young table tennis team's athletes have become more nutritious and diverse. For example, the team's menu on October 23 included: beef noodles, canned milk, eggs (breakfast, 50,000 VND/person); beef stew with potatoes, grilled pork ribs, grass carp with tomato sauce, fried pork belly, white radish stir-fried with eggs, boiled cabbage stems, fish and cucumber soup, yogurt, guava (lunch, 125,000 VND/person); soft roasted duck, steamed snakehead fish, roasted pork belly, fried shrimp, sweet potatoes with cheese, stir-fried chayote shoots with garlic, bamboo shoot soup, yogurt, watermelon (dinner, 125,000 VND/person).
According to state regulations, each athlete receives 320,000 VND for food/day, including 300,000 VND/day for 3 meals, and the remaining 20,000 VND/day, after the teams request, will be transferred directly to the athlete's account to buy drinks.
The Vietnam youth table tennis team has 10 athletes (because 1 player is competing in a tournament and is not at the center, so there are 9 left), divided equally into 2 trays with the above-mentioned food rations. Sharing with Thanh Nien Newspaper, an athlete of the team confirmed that the meals are delicious, nutritious, and the conditions for training, living and competing are good.
Taking over the Vietnam youth table tennis team from Mr. Bui Xuan Ha, head coach Vu Van Trung said: "Since I took over the team, the eating, living and moving of the young athletes have been well ensured by the center. In particular, the current nutritional regimen has met the training and competition intensity of young table tennis athletes. After the incident, the team has received more attention, the training efficiency and spirit of the athletes in the past 2 weeks, in my opinion, have increased significantly."
