Following the incident where Vietnamese youth table tennis athletes (managed by the Hanoi National Sports Training Center, but residing and training at the My Dinh National Sports Complex) were not provided with adequate nutrition, having to eat meals lacking in both quality and quantity compared to the standard of 320,000 VND/day as stipulated by the Ministry of Finance , the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Sports and Physical Education have launched an investigation to verify the matter and thoroughly investigate to ensure the rights of the athletes and to handle individuals and organizations that were irresponsible and caused negative consequences.
After a month of verification, based on the explanations from the relevant parties such as the high-performance sports departments of the Department of Sports and Physical Education, the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi, and the sports complex, the sports sector decided to reprimand the sports complex for failing to fulfill its responsibilities.
The person in charge of the kitchen for the Vietnamese youth table tennis team at the sports complex has been dismissed and transferred to another department. The specialized department of the Department of Sports and Physical Education, which is responsible for managing the Vietnamese youth table tennis team, will temporarily cease its management functions.
The young athletes' meals have become more nutritious and substantial.
Following the news about the inadequate meals served to the Vietnamese youth table tennis team, the Department of Sports and Physical Education instructed that coach Bui Xuan Ha not be summoned to the team, and that the coaching staff and players return to the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi for training and living.
Since returning to the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi, the Vietnamese junior table tennis team has received better nutrition.
According to Thanh Nien Newspaper's investigation, since moving to the training center, the meals for the young table tennis team athletes have become more nutritious and varied. For example, the team's menu on October 23rd included: instant beef noodles, boxed milk, eggs (breakfast, 50,000 VND/person); beef stew with potatoes, grilled pork ribs, carp in tomato sauce, stir-fried pork belly, stir-fried white radish with eggs, boiled broccoli stems, fish and cucumber soup, yogurt, guava (lunch, 125,000 VND/person); tender roasted duck, steamed snakehead fish, roasted pork belly, stir-fried shrimp, sweet potato with cheese, stir-fried chayote shoots with garlic, bamboo shoot soup, yogurt, watermelon (afternoon, 125,000 VND/person).
According to government regulations, each athlete receives 320,000 VND per day for food, which includes 300,000 VND per day for three meals, and the remaining 20,000 VND per day, upon request from the teams, will be transferred directly to the athlete's account to purchase drinks.
The Vietnamese junior table tennis team has 10 athletes (because one player is competing in a tournament and is not at the training center, leaving 9), who are divided equally into two groups with the aforementioned meal portions. Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper, one of the team's athletes confirmed that the meals are delicious, nutritious, and that the training, living, and competition conditions are all good.
Taking over the Vietnamese junior table tennis team from Mr. Bui Xuan Ha, head coach Vu Van Trung said: "Since I took over the team, the center has ensured good food, living conditions, and transportation for the young athletes. In particular, the current nutritional regime meets the training and competition intensity requirements of young table tennis players. After the incident, the team has received more attention, and in my assessment, the training effectiveness and the athletes' morale have clearly improved over the past two weeks."
