Previously, through the work of grasping the situation of gold shop systems in Chau Doc city and on the border of An Phu district with suspicious signs related to illegal transportation of goods across the Vietnam - Cambodia border, the Board of Directors of An Giang Provincial Police directed and approved a plan to assign functional units to closely coordinate to verify and clarify.

At around 7:00 p.m. on July 25, in the Binh Ghi River area, passing through Tan Binh Hamlet, Long Binh Town, An Phu District, An Giang Province, a river task force discovered Nguyen Tan Phong, 45 years old, residing in Hamlet 6, Tan Binh Hamlet, Long Binh Town, An Phu District, An Giang, driving a motorboat transporting goods from Cambodia to Vietnam, so they approached and arrested him. However, taking advantage of the darkness, the subject jumped into the river and fled to Cambodia.
At the same time, another task force on the road also controlled and invited Ho Van Son, 60 years old and Nguyen Hoai Tam, 22 years old, both residing in An Phu district, An Giang province, to the police station for questioning.
Expanding the investigation, An Giang Provincial Police seized an additional 14 kg of gold from the case of transporting 19 kg of gold from Cambodia to Vietnam.
At the police station, Son and Tam surrendered and confessed to participating in a ring that illegally transported gold bars and jewelry across the Vietnam-Cambodia border to gold shops in Chau Doc City for sale. Nguyen Tan Phong realized he could not escape, so he surrendered immediately afterwards.
An Giang Provincial Police coordinated with the Border Guard and An Giang Customs to handle the case and examine the scene. Through inspection, the task force determined that inside the white bag were many metal jewelry (suspected gold) with a total weight of about 19 kg.
Based on the statements of the subjects and the collected documents and evidence, the police agency executed 8 emergency search warrants at the locations, residences and workplaces of the related subjects, temporarily seizing more than 14 kg of gold bars, gold jewelry and many related objects, documents and assets.
Up to now, the Investigation Police Agency of An Giang Province has received and issued decisions to detain in emergency cases 5 subjects related to the illegal transportation of goods across the Vietnam - Cambodia border.
