When models "argue like shrimp and fish vendors in the market"
Returning after 5 years, The Face Vietnam season 4 is expected by the audience to be a program that puts professionalism first and minimizes drama.
The heated debate between Vu Thu Phuong, Anh Thu, Ky Duyen, and Minh Trieu at The Face Vietnam 2023
However, contrary to expectations, right from the first episode, public opinion was fed up with the verbal battle for position between the 4 coaches Vu Thu Phuong, Anh Thu, Ky Duyen, and Minh Trieu.
The incident caused the beauties to face public criticism. Ky Duyen spoke up to explain: "Because the broadcast program was cut a lot due to limited time, a lot of sharing from both Trieu and Duyen was lost."
Supermodel Anh Thu frankly asked the producers of The Face Vietnam to air the entire recording of the coaches' photoshoot to see "where is black and where is white". The beauty also hinted that she did not agree with being "turned black into white" in the program.
The above argument situation also often appeared in previous seasons of The Face Vietnam, or Vietnam's Next Top Model...
Sharing with Giao Thong Newspaper, writer and screenwriter Chu Thom said: "I don't understand, what benefits do these programs bring to society or just to a group of producers and broadcasters?
Do these programs have a positive impact on the modeling profession and the development of Vietnamese fashion, or do they just exploit its dark aspects to make money?
I do not support beautifying this profession, ignoring its dark corners, but I also want to find a way for the audience to have a realistic, clear and accurate view of it.
Watching those TV shows, I only saw the judges mocking and mocking each other, the models pointing at each other and cursing, even almost fighting. They argued like fishmongers in the market," the scriptwriter said.
According to screenwriter Chu Thom, when judges are willing to argue with each other, contestants are not afraid to follow suit, to become famous, famous in the style of "the more scandalous, the more famous".
"That's why reality TV shows become verbal battles. A show broadcast on national television becomes a marketplace.
"Anyone can say whatever they want, the more harsh, the more vicious, the more individualistic, the more mentioned, the more famous, the more viewers and commenters," added screenwriter Chu Thom.
Contestant Dubbie causes controversy for using inappropriate lyrics in Rap Viet season 3
Not stopping at arguments on television, more dangerously, programs like Rap Viet season 3, Rap Kids 2020... also show the carelessness of the organizers in the censorship process, when allowing performances of contestants to air using cheap, anti-cultural, and even historically incorrect words.
Typically, the lyrics in the song "Freezing" by contestant Dubbie (Khuong Le) in Rap Viet season 3 were commented to be substandard such as: "As soon as it got dark, I took off my role/ I walked around the city looking at pretty girls getting dressed"; "You guys are going crazy again/ You have to be good to get more clothes". The male rapper also revealed his lack of knowledge of history and society.
Or in the "Proud of Vietnam" contest of the game show Rap Kids 2020, a contestant rapped: "The national spirit has never been immortal/ The warlike Vietnamese people are famous everywhere".
Should we ban stupid game shows?
In fact, game shows are a vital link between the interests of the TV station, the producer and the advertiser, so reducing the load of useless TV game shows is not easy.
However, it should be noted that television is a place to propagate cultural and artistic aesthetic orientation to the public. Therefore, allowing many boring, bland, non-educational and non-humanistic game shows to flood and dominate prime time is a sad reality…
In recent times, the national master plan for developing Vietnamese culture in the 2023-2030 period, aiming to revive and promote culture as a solid spiritual foundation of society, has been strongly implemented throughout the past time.
Speaking at the National Cultural Conference, implementing the resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong gave specific instructions to concretize the guidelines of the 13th Congress; raised many strategic issues to build Vietnamese culture until the mid-21st century. The General Secretary emphasized 5 times the "revival and development of the country's culture".
Therefore, even those working in culture need to be aware of their roles and responsibilities in the current context.
Writer, screenwriter Chu Thom
According to screenwriter Chu Thom, the responsibility for these inhumane, trashy game shows lies first and foremost with the people who participate in them. Not knowing what they are like in real life, when their true personalities are what they show through their offensive, uncultured actions and words right on national television, that is disappointing.
"The general trend of the crowd is to easily get caught up in arguments, the more tense, the more intense, the more viral. So the players jump in to scold each other, the producer releases everything to go viral, broadcast on TV, collect advertising money.
I know that with each program like that, for every 30 seconds of advertising, they earn hundreds of millions of dong.
But the biggest responsibility lies with the TV stations, the people who manage the airwaves. They turned a blind eye to the game show producers who monopolized the airwaves, then counted the money.
They forget that the people sitting on television, their words, actions, and statements are in the eyes and minds of tens of millions of viewers across the country. Among them, there are many who are very young, not yet capable of independent thinking and will easily imitate because they think that is cool, that is personality, that is being on television, that is being famous. This is very dangerous," screenwriter Chu Thom expressed.
In response to the question: Should we ban and eliminate nonsense and inhumane TV shows?, screenwriter Chu Thom expressed: "I mentioned this story a dozen years ago.
However, in the current context, especially when relevant management agencies such as the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have young, enthusiastic management teams, we can still expect a clean, healthy game show environment in the future."
