Comrade Mai Dang Nhan, Deputy Head of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control (Department of Agriculture and Environment) said: “In aquaculture development, pond renovation after each crop plays an important role in creating a favorable living environment, limiting pathogens remaining in the pond so that aquatic animals can grow and develop healthily and safely from diseases. Therefore, local authorities and specialized agencies have instructed aquaculture farmers to focus on human resources and machinery to dredge, repair, and renovate ponds and lagoons, and treat the water environment before entering the new crop; clean and disinfect all tools and equipment from the previous crop such as pumps, water pipes, aeration fans, generators, etc.”

Following the recommendations of the functional sector and local authorities, aquaculture households in inland aquaculture areas have pumped out water, leveled the pond bottom, dried the substrate, sprinkled lime powder to disinfect the pond bottom; and repaired and maintained the canal system leading water into the pond. After carefully treating the pond environment, based on the weather conditions, households have decided to stock fish species such as black carp, grass carp, common carp, bighead carp, silver carp, etc. in a specialized direction to increase income. According to the assessment of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control, up to this point, freshwater concentrated aquaculture areas have renovated and stocked about 95% of the area, marine fish farming areas have renovated about 80% of the area, and black tiger shrimp farming areas have renovated over 98% of the area according to plan. Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, Director of Hai Dien Aquaculture Cooperative, Huu Nghi residential group, Con town (Hai Hau) said: "This year, the Cooperative has 13 members participating in aquaculture with an area of 12.5 hectares; of which 3 hectares are for snail farming, the rest are for raising whiteleg shrimp, tiger prawns, grouper, headfish, sea bass, etc. To ensure that the aquatic animals develop healthily and are not affected by diseases, the Cooperative has focused on human resources to renovate ponds according to the seasonal schedule, actively coordinating with specialized agencies to inspect facilities providing materials, breeds, and aquatic feed according to regulations. Encourage members to mobilize resources to invest in releasing aquatic species of high economic value for sustainable farming. The Cooperative proactively contacts reputable breeding facilities to place orders in advance to ensure quality breeds. Starting from the end of March and the beginning of April when the weather is favorable, we will breed aquatic animals, hoping to have a good crop. "successful production".

According to the plan, by 2025, the aquaculture area of the whole province will be about 14,345 hectares, of which brackish water aquaculture is 5,345 hectares, freshwater aquaculture is 9,100 hectares; shrimp farming area is 2,800 hectares, concentrated in coastal farming areas; clam farming area is 2,200 hectares concentrated in farming areas of Giao Thuy and Nghia Hung districts. Total aquatic product output will reach about 211,270 tons, an increase of 2-3% or more compared to 2024, of which aquaculture will reach about 148,540 tons, aquatic exploitation will reach about 62,730 tons... Localities focus on developing concentrated aquaculture areas according to planning; encourage the development of diverse farming objects suitable to local conditions, focusing on farming objects with high economic value and stable consumption markets. Strengthening the management of key aquatic species farming facilities, aquatic species production and breeding facilities; facilities importing, trading aquatic feed, and aquatic environment treatment products. To achieve the above objectives, since the first months of the year, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has directed aquatic species production facilities in the province to fully prepare the necessary conditions and be ready for the new production season. Proactively based on the seasonal calendar and practical needs to produce aquatic species to ensure quality for farmers. Accordingly, freshwater species production facilities have selected parent fish and spawned some species with high economic value such as grass carp, black carp, catfish, and common carp; other species including eels, loach, and Thai frogs have also been taught techniques and experiences by people for breeding.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Bich An, Deputy Director of Nam Dinh Aquatic Breeding Center said: "In order to better meet the farming needs of local people, the Center has focused on investing, renovating facilities and equipment, and improving the skills of technicians to produce the best quality aquatic breeds. Currently, the Center is promoting the production of aquatic breeds including: giant tiger prawn, white-leg shrimp; carp, grass carp, black carp; Japanese Koi fish, aquatic specialties such as: Thai frog, snail, catfish, catfish, Vietnamese white carp and some brackish water farming species such as sea crab, American red snapper, Pacific oyster and estuary oyster... The breeds produced by the Center are of good quality, healthy, disease-free, when put into commercial farming, they are assessed to have good resistance to adverse weather and climate conditions, grow quickly, so they are ordered by farming partners and have stable output."

Along with the good preparation of various breeds, the monitoring and warning work of aquaculture environment is also of interest to functional units and localities. The Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control has coordinated with localities to regularly collect environmental monitoring samples according to the plan in white-leg shrimp farming areas, concentrated freshwater farming areas, clam farming areas; has conducted 2 unexpected sampling sessions in brackish water shrimp farming areas, goby farming areas, snakehead fish farming areas, and black carp farming areas in the province. After analysis and evaluation, the monitoring results are sent to localities for widespread information to farmers; guiding farmers to proactively apply environmental treatment measures in ponds, lagoons and farming areas to prevent and control diseases in aquaculture in general, especially white-leg shrimp and clams. For adverse environmental factors affecting farming objects, appropriate treatment measures have been recommended. Coordinate with relevant units and authorities at all levels to strengthen inspection and examination of establishments and agents trading in materials for aquaculture to minimize the use of food, chemicals, biological products, environmental treatment and improvement agents... that do not ensure quality for farmers, negatively affecting the quality and productivity of aquaculture crops; recommend that farmers apply technical advances and intensive and super-intensive aquaculture measures, limit the use of antibiotics and chemicals during the farming process, and increase the use of biological products to ensure food hygiene and safety and protect the environment.
