The effectiveness of the model of making sticky rice wine, using wine lees to raise pigs to develop the family economy of farmers in An Thanh 2 commune.

In recent years, many typical economic models have been widely recognized in the district, helping many farming households stabilize their economies and escape poverty. However, the most typical model in An Thanh I2 commune is the model of cooking sticky rice wine combined with raising pigs to develop the economy of the family of Ms. Quach Thi Phuong Loan, born in 1970, a member of the Farmers' Association of Son Ton hamlet, An Thanh 2 commune, Cu Lao Dung district (Soc Trang province).

She is a typical member and farmer, a pioneer and exemplary leader who encourages her family, relatives, and sisters in the neighborhood to strictly follow all Party guidelines and policies, State policies and laws, and local regulations.

Coming from a family with a tradition of farming and small-scale trading, and belonging to a near-poor family in the commune, after many failed businesses, she was not discouraged and worked hard to learn more about the wine-making profession passed down from her grandparents.

At first, she made wine from regular sticky rice to sell, but due to the increasing market demand for charcoal sticky rice wine, she did not hesitate to learn and gain more experience in how to make charcoal sticky rice wine.

After many times of research and experimentation, she successfully made charcoal sticky rice wine and brought it to her family's own brand.

Taking advantage of the wine lees (wine mash) - the final waste product in the process of distilling sticky rice wine, Ms. Loan uses it as pig feed.

She confided: "After a period of research, I found that the benefits of charcoal sticky rice wine are very good for health, so I boldly invested in making wine to sell to develop the family economy.

When making wine, she did not know what to do with the wine lees (wine residue) so she came up with the idea of using the wine lees to feed pigs.

The amount of sticky rice wine sold daily fluctuates around more than 20 liters, priced at 35,000 VND/liter, earning over 700,000 VND/day.

And the remaining wine lees - the final waste product - can be used to feed 1 sow and 14 pigs. Each year, her family earns more than 100 million VND from raising pigs.

In the group, she always plays the role of an active member, encouraging women to build effective models or activities such as implementing revolving capital contributions within the group.

Every month, she proactively invites the women in the group to save 200,000 VND/person to help women in difficult circumstances borrow to pay for family expenses, with a total amount of nearly 6 million VND per month.

With her practical work, from 2019 to now, she has helped 23 women borrow revolving capital with a total amount of more than 138 million VND.

Through that, the female members of the cashew group have developed a stable family economy and every year, members of the cashew group achieve 3 emulation movement standards and 8 criteria for building a family of 5 no, 3 clean.

The local government also highly appreciates the business model of Ms. Quach Thi Phuong Loan and hopes that she will continue to contribute to stabilizing the local economy in particular and developing the economy of Cu Lao Dung district (Soc Trang province) in general.
