On the afternoon of August 28, at the 24th session (special session) of the People's Council of Soc Trang province, term X, 2021-2026, delegates passed a resolution on Building an irrigation system to serve aquaculture in Vinh Chau town.
Although Vinh Chau town is a key shrimp farming area (area of nearly 11,000 hectares), the locality is currently facing difficulties in infrastructure and irrigation.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa Binh - Vice Chairman of Vinh Chau Town People's Committee - in the area, there are 35 sluices serving to take salt water for aquaculture. However, these works both supply water and discharge wastewater from production and daily life, so sedimentation in the sluices occurs very quickly. In addition, some works that have been invested in and built for a long time are now degraded and need synchronous investment to ensure their effectiveness.
Faced with the above situation, the People's Council of Soc Trang province has approved the Resolution of the Project to build an irrigation system to serve aquaculture in Vinh Chau town. The total investment is nearly 60 billion VND.
Accordingly, Bo Kenh culvert will be built on the My Thanh river dike, an open culvert with 1 compartment and 7.5m wide, and the upstream and downstream water supply channel will be dredged. Nopuol culvert will be built on the Muoi Tra Von canal intersecting with Huyen 48 road, a box culvert with 2 compartments, each compartment is 4m wide, and the upstream and downstream water supply channel will be dredged.
When put into use, these projects will contribute to ensuring stable water sources for about 2,100 hectares of aquaculture land, preventing high tides in the context of climate change. Gradually completing the aquaculture and production areas according to the planning of Soc Trang province until 2030 and vision to 2050.
