For a week now, Ms. Hoa (35 years old) has been worried because her 3-year-old daughter has been having a runny nose, coughing, and asthma attacks. She shared that her daughter has congenital asthma, so every time the weather changes, she often has asthma attacks.
"In the past week, I have been monitoring and seeing that the air quality in Hanoi has been consistently poor, so I am very worried. I even let my child stay at home and not go out, but he still has asthma attacks, coughs, and runny noses. Living in the city, I am most afraid of weather like this," Ms. Hoa confided.
At the Central Lung Hospital, hospital leaders also said that recently, the number of people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease coming for check-ups has increased. The main reason is the changing weather and increased air pollution.
Recently, the Ministry of Health has recommended preventive measures to protect health when the air quality index is at a bad level (AQI at 151-200) and a very bad level (AQI at 201-300). The Ministry of Health recommends that people monitor daily air quality information to take appropriate health protection measures.
Accordingly, experts recommend that with poor air quality, people should limit outdoor activities or participate in strenuous physical activities. If they have to work or do outdoor activities, they should arrange and choose less polluted times of the day, rest more, and perform activities at moderate intensity.
At the same time, you should limit opening windows and doors when the air is heavily polluted, especially families living near traffic routes or areas with air pollution.
Clean your nose and gargle with saline morning and night, especially after going out. Rinse your eyes with saline in the evening before going to bed.
In addition, when the air quality index is at a very poor level (AQI at 201-300), sensitive people should avoid all outdoor activities, switch to indoor activities or switch to another day when the air quality index is better. Limit opening windows and doors during times of heavy air pollution.
In addition, for those who monitor their health, if acute symptoms such as difficulty breathing, cough, fever appear, they should immediately go to medical facilities for examination, consultation and treatment.
