In the first 6 months of 2024, livestock farming activities in the province took place smoothly with all goals and targets being higher than planned. Notably, the price of live cattle and poultry meat tended to increase, the total livestock herd was large, ranking among the top in the country; while the epidemic situation in the whole country was complicated, in Thanh Hoa it was still well controlled... In the last months of 2024, with challenges mixed with opportunities, the agricultural sector is determined to increase the value of this sector.

Livestock maintains growth momentum The Xuan Thien Thanh Hoa 1 high-tech livestock production project in Minh Tien commune (Ngoc Lac) has come into operation.

Entering the implementation of the 2024 plan with many difficulties and challenges when the price of animal feed is high, the price of livestock products is unstable, the selling price of products is low compared to the investment cost, especially buffalo and cows. In addition, the disease situation in livestock and poultry is complicated and unpredictable with African swine fever outbreaks in many provinces and cities across the country; not to mention there are still many difficulties in controlling transportation and slaughtering activities, small-scale livestock farming accounts for a high proportion.

However, with the determination not to let difficulties hinder the growth target, in the first 6 months of 2024, the livestock industry still achieved positive results with a production value of more than 5,580 billion VND, an increase of 4.8% over the same period; the output of fresh meat of all kinds reached 150,000 tons. In recent times, livestock farming has continued to have a positive shift from small-scale, household farming to farm and ranch farming, in the direction of industry and semi-industrial with disease and environmental safety control. The whole province currently has 1,080 livestock farms and livestock facilities; 106 livestock facilities are disease-safe.

Looking back over the past half year, it can be said that the bright spot of the livestock industry is that there have been no dangerous disease outbreaks in the province. Although rabies has occurred, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine has promptly directed and coordinated with localities to promptly implement measures to contain and promptly suppress rabies, preventing it from spreading widely; implementing the "Peak Year of rabies vaccination for dogs and cats" and maintaining it continuously for 3 years to control the disease, ensuring 100% vaccination coverage; the first phase of livestock and poultry vaccination in 2024 has also achieved high results.

Notably, recently, when African swine fever broke out again in 45 provinces and cities across the country; especially in provinces bordering Thanh Hoa such as Hoa Binh, Son La, Ninh Binh..., Thanh Hoa is still controlling the disease well. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine has seriously directed localities to implement measures such as: organizing sanitation, disinfection, and environmental detoxification to destroy pathogens; promoting biosafety in livestock farming; vaccinating against diseases; fully arranging veterinary specialists and preparing means, materials, tools, disinfectants, lime powder, vaccines... to be ready to respond when an epidemic occurs... It can be said that the effective control of disease prevention and control has contributed to creating conditions for the livestock industry to develop sustainably and is a good environment to attract 72 enterprises operating in the field of large-scale livestock farming. Since then, linkage chains have been formed in districts with favorable land conditions, synchronous infrastructure, disease control associated with environmental protection and stable consumption markets, such as: Yen Dinh, Tho Xuan, Hau Loc, Nga Son, Ngoc Lac, Thach Thanh... with large enterprises and corporations such as Hien Nhuan Production and Trading Company Limited, Phu Gia Agricultural Products Joint Stock Company, Mavin Group, DABACO Group, TH True Milk Group... In which, many enterprises have invested in building large-scale livestock projects associated with processing or slaughtering plants and oriented to export livestock products.

From the positive signs of livestock farming activities in the first months of the year, to achieve good results in the coming time, the provincial agricultural sector and localities are focusing on promoting the development of livestock farming in the direction of farms, applying high technology in the value chain, controlling diseases and protecting the environment. In addition, implementing the work of vaccinating dogs, cats and livestock and poultry against rabies in the second phase of 2024 to ensure the right time and progress. On the other hand, strengthening quarantine, slaughter control, veterinary hygiene inspection in the province, mobilizing and eliminating small-scale slaughterhouses that do not ensure safety. Localities continue to implement measures to control diseases, especially not to let African swine fever, avian influenza H5N1, H5N6... re-infect the province. Along with that, guiding, transferring, applying science - technology, technology in livestock and veterinary medicine to create quality livestock products, increase product value...
