NDO - Not only stopping at completing diverse infrastructure planning, Cat Ba is also oriented to be built into the first green, carbon-free island in Vietnam. With the establishment of a green transportation system on the island, Cat Ba is expected to increasingly attract high-end guests and international visitors staying long-term to the locality.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Trung Luong, former Deputy Director of the Institute of Tourism Research, the electric passenger car system and the Cat Hai-Phu Long cable car line developed on Cat Ba Island are both means of reducing carbon emissions. This methodical approach is closely linked to the sustainable development that many countries in the world are pursuing, focusing on human responsibility for the environment, while attracting high-quality tourists and responsible tourism.

Citing the “paradise island” Lamma in Hong Kong, China, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Trung Luong said that Lamma Island is increasingly attracting high-quality tourists because it is always in the group of islands with no car exhaust fumes worth exploring in the world.

“Cat Ba has begun to limit emission-emitting vehicles with the support of the tourism service business community. I hope that the locality will realize the goal of not accepting carbon-emitting motor vehicles to the island,” Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Trung Luong shared.

Along with the implementation of a tourism project in the center of Cat Ba Island, Sun Group recently announced a strategy to accompany the implementation of a green transportation system on the island.

Accordingly, the project will develop a parking lot and electric vehicle charging station right at Phu Long cable car station, ready to operate to pick up passengers from the cable car station to the town center this summer. All travel in the central bay area of Cat Ba will be by electric buggy, bicycle or on foot.

In 2025, Hai Phong city will also simultaneously implement a project to expand Dong Bai ferry terminal to receive 3-4 ferries of all types at the same time and expand the access roads to Dong Bai and Cai Vieng ferries.

In addition, building a large-scale parking lot near the ferry terminal area, aiming to build Cat Ba Island according to the model of an ecological, smart island, is a lever for the development of Hai Phong's green economy and tourism. It is known that in the coming time, Hai Phong will limit gasoline and diesel vehicles on Cat Ba Island.

In the near future, tourists coming to Cat Ba will have many options in green transportation such as: electric buses, electric taxis, electric buggies... Convenient transportation will also help tourists more comfortably explore the beauty of the island, aiming for a model of responsible tourism associated with environmental protection.
