A collision between a passenger bus, a truck, and a 5-seat car caused serious traffic congestion on the Mai Son - National Highway 45, section through Vinh Loc and Ha Trung districts (Thanh Hoa) from Hanoi to Thanh Hoa, according to a representative of the Vietnam Expressway Operation and Maintenance Joint Stock Company.
On the morning of August 31, thousands of cars were still stuck for hours, unable to move through this route because the accident site did not have an emergency lane, and the time to resolve the mixed accident was prolonged.
"We had to sleep in the car for more than 6 hours, and still can't get off this highway," said driver Quang while returning to his hometown in Nghe An with his family.
The traffic jam lasted about 20 km from the entrance point of Mai Son Expressway in Yen Mo district, Ninh Binh to Vinh Loc district, Thanh Hoa.
Traffic Police Team No. 3, Traffic Police Department, this morning blocked the entrance to Mai Son Expressway - National Highway 45, diverting traffic towards National Highway 1A. There were no casualties in the accident, but the sleeper bus, two trucks and a 5-seat car were damaged.
Traffic was able to resume early this morning, but due to the large number of vehicles returning home for the holiday, traffic on the highway remained slow. At around 9am, another collision occurred, causing further traffic congestion.
The Mai Son - National Highway 45 Expressway is more than 63 km long and will be open to traffic at the end of 2022. This expressway section connects Cao Bo - Mai Son and National Highway 45 - Nghi Son, with two lanes for motor vehicles in each direction. Currently, there are no emergency lanes but only stop strips with a distance of about 5 km per point.
