As the Lunar New Year 2024 approaches, many types of flowers and ornamental plants are on sale, attracting customers to shop for Tet.
At the Tet flower booth in the My Dinh Stadium area (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi), a giant pot of gold-plated Phalaenopsis orchids has just been completed and put on display, making many people curious to admire it.
Mr. Ngo Van Nghiep, the stall owner, said that this orchid pot is named “Cuu Long Tranh Chau”, about 5m high, made of 2,686 Phalaenopsis orchid branches, using 9 colors of orchids to create nine layers. The stone vase is carved separately and uses 5 taels of gold to cover it.
Giant orchid pots become the focus of the 2024 Tet orchid market.
“The new year is the year of the dragon, I wanted to create a unique product, so when I saw the painting “Nine Dragons Competing for a Pearl”, I immediately thought of creating this orchid pot” , said Mr. Nghiep.
Having come up with the idea 4 months ago, Mr. Nghiep sought out stone artisans in Thai Binh to have the pot crafted. He said that the pot alone weighed more than 1 ton, and it took 4 skilled artisans and 5 assistants about 3 months to make. To transport the pot from Thai Binh to Hanoi, 2 cranes and 2 forklifts were used.
To graft more than 2,686 orchid branches onto pots, it took 5 orchid grafters working continuously for 3 days and nights, including a skilled worker who is considered an "artisan" and is paid very highly.

The orchids chosen to make this work are all Dalat Phalaenopsis orchids, with 1.5 meter long branches. 9 types of orchids with different colors were carefully selected to create the most perfect work.
The flower pot was completed on January 16, 2024 and displayed at the Dalat Phalaenopsis orchid booth in My Dinh.

"This flower pot has been registered to set a Vietnamese record as the largest and most expensive Phalaenopsis orchid pot in Vietnam," Mr. Nghiep informed.
According to Mr. Nghiep, he made this orchid pot for the purpose of displaying and promoting, introducing Phalaenopsis orchids to customers, especially orchid lovers. However, if anyone likes and wants to own it, Mr. Nghiep will sell it for 3.86 billion VND.
