Tricks to "inflate" the price of mutant orchids
According to Thanh Nien 's investigation, the information about the price of mutated orchids returning to fever comes from some social media accounts selling them at high prices. Specifically, a mutated orchid of the Hong Phu Hoa variety, 80 cm in size, is being sold for 129 million VND; similarly, a flower of the Hong Hai Dang variety is being "screamed" for 99 million VND...
A gardener is selling a 5-petal white Anh Duong mutant orchid for only 186,000 VND/plant. However, after 8 hours of posting on the Vietnam Mutated Wild Orchid Exchange Forum, there was still no one interested in buying.
In the professional orchid community, the news that mutant orchids are back in high prices has made many people skeptical. For many years, this mutant orchid has still had players, but the price of a seedling is not high, only ranging from a few tens to a few hundred thousand dong.
Mr. NHT, owner of an orchid garden in Dan Phuong District (Hanoi), said that the current price of mutated orchids is difficult to sell for millions of dong, and prices of up to several million or tens of millions of dong are only available to "paranoid" and "price-crazy" people.
According to Mr. T., in the orchid playing and trading community today, there are still transactions of mutated orchids but the prices are very cheap compared to the fever period a few years ago.
Specifically, the price of the Bao Duy white 5-petal mutant orchid used to be up to 1 billion VND/cm, but now it is only a few hundred thousand VND/plant. Similarly, the Phu Quy white 5-petal mutant orchid used to be up to 30 - 50 million VND/cm, but now it is only 140,000 VND/plant; the Yen Thuy pink mutant orchid used to be priced at hundreds of millions of VND/cm, but now it is only a few tens of thousands of VND/plant.
The 5-petal white Bao Duy mutant orchid was previously traded for up to 1 billion VND/cm, but now the gardener is selling it for only 139,000 VND for a 35 cm long flower.
Can mass clone mutant orchid seedlings
Survey on the Facebook forum of the Vietnam Mutant Wild Orchid Exchange Association with over 50,000 members, many gardeners in Dak Lak, Hoa Binh... are selling 5-petal white snow orchids for only 250,000 VND/kie. But this is only information from gardeners and there are very few comments, interactions, and bargaining to make transactions.
Mr. T. commented that the information about the high price of mutant orchids "is only online", but in reality there are almost no transactions. The highest price that orchid players are buying and selling now is only a few hundred thousand VND/plant, the most beautiful type like the 5-petal snow white also does not cost millions.
"Previously, when mutant orchids were traded at prices of hundreds of millions of dong, billions of dong, but then the price dropped, many people went bankrupt, so now no one is foolish enough to spend hundreds of millions of dong to buy mutant orchids. This is just a trick to stimulate demand, creating virtual trading waves to attract investment money," said Mr. T.
The owner of an orchid garden in Me Linh District (Hanoi), Mr. D.VH, also denied the information that the price of mutated orchids has increased to hundreds of millions of dong and said that this is just a trick to "inflate prices" and stimulate demand by a group of people.
Mr. H. said that, like before, the billion-dollar mutant orchid transaction was only within a group of people. The price of orchids was continuously pushed up, causing people to invest heavily in building orchid gardens, mortgaging their houses and land to borrow money from banks to buy seedlings. But then, many orchid buyers could not sell their products, the garden owners disappeared, and their investment money was lost, then many people realized that it was actually just a scam.
"If you are a person who plays orchids because of passion, hobby and considers it a business, you will research very carefully before making transactions. As for ordinary people, you should absolutely not believe in the tricks of "inflating" the price of mutated orchids posted on social networks, it is very easy to fall into the trap of scammers," Mr. H. advised.
Sharing with Thanh Nien , a leader of the Dalat Flower Association (Lam Dong) who has decades of research and development of Phalaenopsis orchid varieties to supply markets across the country affirmed that with in vitro propagation technology, only one mutant orchid plant can be propagated into thousands, tens of thousands of offspring while still retaining the characteristics and color of the original mother plant.
At that time, the price of mutant orchids will be very cheap. In fact, the number of mutant orchid players and the market demand for this product line is not much, so orchid businesses are not interested in or do not invest in breeding and producing mutant orchids in large quantities.
