Public criticism will encourage art units to invest in the quality of their performances.
Since the 2024 Cai Luong Theater Festival in Can Tho City, many socialized art units have made preparations to live within their means, aiming to light up the Lunar New Year season.
In that picture of many bright colors, early 2025 has seen signs of hope when many public and non-public units have introduced new plays with carefully invested content, promising to be well received by the audience.
People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association, said that the strictness of the public will encourage art units to invest in the quality of plays to attract audiences willing to spend money to buy tickets to enjoy.

Meritorious Artist Chi Linh said: "Doing Tet Cai Luong cannot be rushed, because we have to invest to perform it on the first day, to prolong the life of the play; if we do it carelessly and perform it to all the audience, it will be a waste of effort and money."
Therefore, public and private cai luong troupes have created a push to prepare for 2025, first of all to perform on the occasion of Lunar New Year. Tran Huu Trang Theater has staged two new classic cai luong plays: "Doi Co Luu" and "Tieng Ho Song Hau" which received praise from the majority of the audience when the young generation of actors were assigned to play the main characters.
Chi Linh - Van Ha Opera Troupe will perform the play "Van Vo Ky Duyen"; Thien Long Stage will perform the play "Tu Hy Lam Mon" also at Tran Huu Trang Theater.
The Bach Long Children's Troupe performed the play "Nhi Ho Diep, Hiep Nhat Hoa" about the story of the Kitchen Gods at the Smile Theater (HCMC Labor Culture Palace); the Huynh Long Traditional Opera Troupe performed the play "Mai Trang Se Duyen" at the Hong Lien Theater (Hau Giang Cultural Center, District 6). This year, Meritorious Artist Vu Luan stood out by performing the play "Thanh Kiem Do Long" at the Ben Thanh Theater.
Among the Tet plays, the Ho Quang opera, popularly known as Chinese opera, is still popular. First of all, this is a genre favored by the majority of audiences because of its splendid costumes, choreography and brilliant makeup. The content of the plays is somewhat fictional to use special effects, the main actors and female actors act out the emotions that captivate the audience. This Tet, the couple Vo Minh Lam - Tu Suong (reigning winners of the 30th Mai Vang Awards for Most Favorite Male and Female Stage Actors) are still the two artists who guarantee box office revenue.
This year, the troupes that are strong in the traditional opera genre have invested heavily, and in early January, they have started selling tickets to serve audiences during the Lunar New Year season.
Dong Au Bach Long, with a Ho Quang background, has made changes and innovations in the past year following both traditional and Vietnamese historical cai luong. "This is an innovative trend to create a stage for the young generation of Dong Au actors, especially to pass on Vietnamese historical roles to students," said Meritorious Artist Bach Long.
Thanks to the awareness of creating scripts with new content and form in the layout and staging, Cai Luong in 2025 carries a message of innovation compared to many years ago. The excitement for the artists is that tickets for the plays have been sold out almost all the way through the days, proving that the audience has not abandoned Cai Luong performances. The boost of Tet season will be an opportunity for this art form to flourish in 2025.
