Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism - Mr. Nguyen Van Hung directed the Department of Sports and Physical Training to extend the contract with Korean expert Park Chung-gun of the Vietnam shooting team. Mr. Park Chung-gun has been with the Vietnam shooting team for many years, contributing greatly to the gold medals won at the 2016 Olympics and the 19th ASIAD.
The Department of Sports and Physical Training sent a dispatch to the Vietnam Shooting Federation and the Hanoi National Sports Training Center regarding hiring Korean experts to train the national shooting team for the 2024 Olympics.
"Implementing the direction of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's leaders on continuing to hire Korean experts to train the national shooting team until the 2024 Olympics. The Department of Sports and Physical Training continues to assign tasks to experts and coaches to develop a plan to have 1-2 or more athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics and strive to win medals at this Games," the document stated.
The Hanoi National Sports Training Center must have a written response regarding the expert's performance of duties with the Department of Sports and Physical Training before October 21 before coordinating with the Vietnam Shooting Federation to carry out the task.

"Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung also directed the Department of Sports and Physical Training to organize a conference to summarize the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) and orient the next major Games, first of all the 2026 Asian Games, the 2024 Olympics, the 2028 Olympics... At the conference, the Department of Sports and Physical Training will also award experts, coaches, and athletes who achieved achievements at the 19th Asian Games," added Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet.
Previously, on the evening of October 18, the Shooting Federation held an award ceremony for athletes and coaches who achieved high results at the 19th ASIAD. However, expert Park Chung-gun - an important member of the team - was not named. He was invited to attend the ceremony but only watched and was not honored. He also left and was not present in the team's souvenir photo.
Mr. Park Chung-gun has worked for the Vietnam shooting team since 2014. He directly consulted, supported, and trained athletes of the shooting teams and was the head coach of the teams. The Korean expert contributed greatly to helping shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh win the 2016 Olympic gold medal and the 2017 World silver medal.
Mr. Park Chung-gun is also an official member of the Vietnamese sports delegation attending the 19th ASIAD as an expert. Shooter Pham Quang Huy - who won the 19th ASIAD gold medal in the 10m air pistol event - also mentioned Mr. Park Chung-gun with words of thanks.
The fact that expert Park Chung-gun's name was not on the list of awards made public opinion question the behavior of the Vietnam Shooting Federation.
