Thanh Quoi Commune Veterans Association actively supports members in economic development

STO - In order to promote the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement of its members, in recent years, the Veterans Association of Thanh Quoi Commune, My Xuyen District (Soc Trang) has implemented many practical solutions to support members in economic development. Since then, many veteran members have risen out of poverty and become rich legitimately on their homeland.

The Thanh Quoi Commune Veterans Association currently has 309 members operating in 12 hamlet branches. In recent times, to help members develop the economy and improve their lives, the association has promoted propaganda and mobilized members to raise their sense of self-reliance, self-strengthening, and overcoming difficulties. In particular, it always accompanies members in supporting loans to invest in developing economic models suitable to the local advantages. At the same time, the association regularly coordinates with commune associations and organizations to organize training courses, transfer science and technology, and improve members' knowledge about production, animal husbandry, and cultivation; organize members to learn from effective economic models in and outside the locality to apply to their family models.

To help members have investment capital, expand production and business scale, the association has been entrusted with the Social Policy Bank to create conditions for members to access preferential loans. The association is currently managing 11 savings and loan groups, with a total outstanding loan balance of over 20 billion VND, lending to 580 members and people. Loan capital is managed and used for the right purpose, effectively, thereby helping many members escape poverty and become rich legitimately. In addition, the association also mobilizes members to build an association fund to promptly support members in difficulty to borrow interest-free loans.

With the practical support measures of the Thanh Quoi Commune Veterans Association, members have more resources and knowledge to boldly and proactively invest in developing effective economic models. Among them, veteran Huynh Van Bo, residing in Thanh An Hamlet, Thanh Quoi Commune, is one of the typical members who overcame difficulties to develop the economy. Returning to normal life after participating in the commune's guerrillas, like many people in the commune, veteran Huynh Van Bo started to develop production and stabilize his life. Mr. Bo shared: “My family has more than 3 hectares of land. Before, I only farmed so my income was not high. After that, I attended several training courses on farming and animal husbandry in the commune, I decided to switch to the shrimp-rice model and combine it with cow farming, because I found that raising cows could take advantage of the vacant land around the house to grow grass for cows to eat and raising cows was also easy to take care of. Since switching to raising cattle in this direction, I have found that my family's economy has become more stable.”

Not only Mr. Bo, thanks to the support of the Commune Veterans Association, up to now, the commune has had many models of veteran members who are good at production and business. Currently, the entire association has 1 member who achieved good production and business at the provincial level; 9 members who achieved good production and business at the district level and 36 members who achieved at the grassroots level.

Comrade Tran Van Hieu - Chairman of the Veterans Association of Thanh Quoi commune said: “From the awareness of the practical significance of the movement "Veterans help each other reduce poverty, do good business", the association has regularly disseminated and thoroughly instructed members to implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, and the local socio-economic development program; at the same time, encouraged members to promote the will of self-reliance, self-reliance, overcome difficulties to improve the family economy, and have a stable life. Up to now, the percentage of veteran members in the whole commune with a good standard of living, rich accounts for over 30%, the rest are average households, the association has no poor members. Promoting the achieved results, in the coming time, the association will continue to propagate and mobilize members to actively compete and help each other in production, as well as create conditions for members to access preferential loans to expand production scale, increase income".

Through economic development support activities of the Thanh Quoi Commune Veterans Association, the comradeship, team spirit, will, determination, and strengths of members in production and business have been aroused. Thereby, helping to improve the material and spiritual life of members and contributing to promoting socio-economic development in the commune.
