"Vietnam U17 had a strong performance in the 2025 AFC U17 Championship qualifiers with significant contributions from defender Le Huy Viet Anh. This player not only played solidly in defense but also scored the equalizer in the 1-1 draw with Yemen," AFC wrote about Viet Anh.
Viet Anh, who came from the PVF academy, not only has a good physique but also a football mindset that is highly appreciated by coach Cristiano Roland. In the qualifying round, it was this central defender's goal against Yemen that helped Vietnam U17 win a ticket to the Asian finals.
Before entering the opening match against Australia with his teammates, Viet Anh shared his feelings: "I am both nervous and excited as I prepare to enter the tournament. The training session in Oman and the two recent friendly matches with U17 Oman are important stepping stones to help U17 Vietnam become more confident. Even though they were just friendly matches, the two wins against Oman still gave us great motivation."
Regarding being trusted to wear the captain's armband, Viet Anh said: "I am very happy to take on this responsibility. Of course there will be pressure, but I consider it a motivation to try harder, help my teammates and show my role on the field. I always encourage everyone to focus, try hard and not be afraid of any opponent."
Viet Anh said that the field in Saudi Arabia is very good, and the U17 Vietnam team is also getting used to the new time zone. The team just has to adapt quickly to the hot weather conditions.
"I hope everyone will always follow and cheer for the team. U17 Vietnam will try their best to achieve the best results in each match," Viet Anh confidently affirmed.
At the finals, U17 Vietnam will meet Australia (10:00 p.m. April 4), Japan (10:00 p.m. April 7) and UAE (10:00 p.m. April 10). If they pass the group stage, coach Cristiano Roland and his team will have a ticket to the 2025 World Cup.
