Despite being a shooter with many impressive achievements, shooting was not Phi Thanh Thao's first choice. Born and raised in Hanoi in a family of carpenters, Thao was soon enrolled by her parents in swimming and diving classes during the summer vacation.
At the age of 7, Thao left her family to train at the Hanoi High-Level Athlete Training Center and joined the diving team. After a long period of training, competing and achieving some achievements at home and abroad, at the age of 14, Thao realized that she needed a change.
Listening to a brother, Thao joined the training at the Army Sports Center and found a passion for shooting.
Coming to shooting by chance, Thanh Thao did not expect to discover many new things. She received enthusiastic instruction from experienced coaches and athletes.
This is what helped Thao quickly adapt to the transition from a sport that is always in a dynamic state to a sport that requires calmness and high concentration.
Starting out as a diver helped Thao develop faster than many young athletes because of her stable breathing. Thao focused on practicing more exercises to improve concentration, steady standing posture, thinking skills, and shooting techniques for various types of guns.
