The candle lighting ceremony to pay tribute to the Central-level "Heroic Martyrs" was held at the Hanoi Martyrs Cemetery, the resting place of 2,188 outstanding sons of the capital and the nation who heroically sacrificed their lives in the country's resistance wars and in peacetime. A memorial incense stick of comradeship was lit for the fallen soldiers. The memorial service is an opportunity for those who remain, especially the younger generation, to pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the cause of protecting the Fatherland. Ha Truong Ngoc Linh, a final year student at the People's Police Academy, said she felt honored and proud to be one of the few representatives of the capital's youth present at the ceremony to honor heroes and martyrs. Tears fell on the faces of the martyrs' relatives who came to offer incense in memory.
Relatives of the martyrs are proud because their sacrifices brought peace and stability to the nation. The father of martyr Do Duc Viet stood silently next to his son's grave. Viet was one of three soldiers who died in the fire that occurred in Quan Hoa (Cau Giay) in August 2022.
