Cope (Spain) revealed a story that caused a stir in the football fan community about player Lucas Perez. The striker who used to play for Arsenal encountered trouble related to his father who left him in an orphanage.
Recently, Lucas Perez parted ways with the once-famous club Deportivo La Coruna. The player born in 1988 paid out of his own pocket to get his contract terminated. The underlying cause stemmed from the poor relationship between Lucas Perez and his father.
The 36-year-old player said that his parents sent him to an orphanage when he was only 2 years old. Lucas Perez was then raised by his grandfather. After his grandparents passed away, the player's father filed a lawsuit to demand his son's alimony.
Lucas Perez used to play for Arsenal.
"I received a complaint from my father asking me to pay him alimony for the rest of my life. Since then, I have been experiencing months of extreme stress and anxiety, because I have to constantly remember that difficult period in my life," Lucas Perez revealed in an interview on Cope radio.
The player also said that his mother had asked him for similar money. That was when Lucas Perez had just signed a contract with Arsenal - the most famous team he played for in his career.
Playing in the Premier League and La Liga, this striker's income is not bad. Perez once received a salary of 70 thousand pounds/week when playing for Arsenal and West Ham.
The court rejected Lucas Perez's mother's request because she had given up custody of her son. Lucas Perez's grandparents, after taking him home from the orphanage, only listed the father as their guardian.
The 36-year-old said he had met his father several times to talk but could not mend the broken relationship. This made Lucas Perez unable to focus on his career. The striker's morale was further depressed when he felt the club did not support and sympathize.
"I had to leave immediately because the problem with my father continued. The situation at the club was not good because I did not feel valued or supported. So I decided to be honest, telling them that I had to leave due to difficult circumstances. I was only two games away from reaching the 20-game mark that would have allowed me to renew my contract, but I did not want to do so," said Lucas Perez.
The former Arsenal striker left Deportivo La Coruna on January 22. After a month off and family matters, Lucas Perez signed for PSV Eindhoven. He made his debut just three days after joining the Dutch club, playing the final eight minutes.
Earlier, Spanish media reported that Lucas Perez decided to leave Deportivo La Coruna for financial reasons. The player needed a team that could pay him more. In fact, PSV Eindhoven - playing in the top flight of the Netherlands and participating in the Champions League - has better potential than Deportivo La Coruna.
Lucas Perez denied the money issue. However, in an interview with Cope, the former Arsenal striker stressed that due to personal reasons related to conflicts with his father, he was forced to leave even though he did not want to be away from his young son, who is still living in his hometown of A Coruna (Spain).
