Ivory Coast wants to increase agricultural cooperation with Vietnam

The President of the Ivory Coast's National Assembly hopes that Vietnam will increase cooperation in the agricultural sector and share development experiences.

During a meeting with President of the Ivory Coast National Assembly Adama Bictogo on June 14, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam considers Ivory Coast one of its important partners in Africa, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The President of the Ivory Coast National Assembly hopes that Vietnam will share its development experience and proposes strengthening agricultural cooperation to ensure sustainable food security. Mr. Bictogo also suggested that Vietnamese enterprises increase investment and production in Ivory Coast.

National Assembly Chairman Bictogo called Vietnam a model for Ivory Coast, highly appreciating Vietnam's role in the region and the world, especially within the framework of ASEAN and the United Nations.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that both sides ensure a balanced trade balance, diversify exchanged goods, increase exports of Vietnam’s key products, and consider expanding cooperation to other potential areas. The Prime Minister also wants to study a three-way agricultural cooperation model between the two countries and an international organization.

The two leaders agreed on the need to strengthen the legal framework for economic cooperation through increasing the signing of cooperation framework agreements as well as important trade agreements, encouraging and protecting investment, and avoiding double taxation.

The two sides affirmed to continue to coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, especially the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as share and support the stance of resolving disputes, including the East Sea issue, by peaceful means on the basis of international law.

Vietnam and Côte d'Ivoire established diplomatic relations in October 1975. Côte d'Ivoire is Vietnam's second largest trading partner in Africa. Trade turnover between the two countries has grown rapidly since 2015 and exceeded one billion USD for the first time since 2021.

Vietnam's main exports to Ivory Coast are rice, pepper, iron and steel products, and motorcycle spare parts. Vietnam imports cashew nuts, cotton, and animal feed ingredients from Ivory Coast.
