Binh Lieu is the first mountainous, border and ethnic minority district in the country to complete the new rural construction program. The results achieved after 13 years of implementing this national target program have become a great driving force for the district to continue building advanced new rural areas, model new rural areas and spreading the spirit, emulation and production to every village and people.
Coming to Huc Dong commune (Binh Lieu district) in the right season when the arrowroot flowers bloom, one can see the brilliant appearance of one of the first two advanced NTM communes in this border strip of the Fatherland. A brilliant, warm and prosperous countryside. In the midst of the majestic mountains and forests are Thai-roofed houses with the smell of paint, fields with the scent of new rice seedlings and bright red arrowroot flowers in full bloom.
Leading us to a field of cassava located next to a straight asphalt road in Na Ech village (Huc Dong commune), Mr. La A Nong, Director of Dinh Trung Development Cooperative, shared: I was born and raised in Na Ech village. Since I was a child, I have witnessed my grandfathers, grandmothers, and then my father and mother making cassava vermicelli. When I grew up and went far away to study at university, I still decided to return to stick with the traditional cassava vermicelli making profession of my hometown. With support from the district, and favorable conditions from the commune and village, in 2014 I established Dinh Trung Development Cooperative, whose main business is the production and trading of cassava vermicelli.
Up to now, after nearly 10 years of establishment, Dinh Trung Development Cooperative annually consumes 500-600 tons of raw cassava roots, produces 10-20 tons of finished cassava vermicelli, with revenue of about 2 billion VND and profit of 200-250 million VND. In addition to producing cassava vermicelli, La A Nong's family also grows star anise and cinnamon. From farming, hill and forest economy and production development, La A Nong's family earns 500-600 million VND each year, has built a large, spacious, modern house, bought a car, and become a typical well-off household in the commune.
In Huc Dong, there are many examples of successful economic development and getting rich in their hometown like Mr. La A Nong. The development of traditional occupations associated with the model of one commune, one product (OCOP) has been effectively and deeply implemented, promoting the formation of 4 cooperatives producing cassava vermicelli. Along with that, the household production model with investment in modern machinery and equipment helps to improve productivity and product quality, thereby increasing revenue and income for producers, contributing to the prosperity and well-being of Huc Dong.
People are proactive and bold in investing in many new production models to get rich. If in 2022, the time of completing the advanced rural area construction program, Huc Dong commune had no more poor households, the average income was estimated at 65.18 million VND/person, then by the end of June 2024, the average income of the commune had increased to 72 million VND/person. In April 2024, Huc Dong commune officially received the decision to recognize it as meeting the advanced rural area standards in 2022, becoming the second of the six communes in Binh Lieu to complete the construction of advanced rural areas and enter the journey of building a model rural area.
Not only in Huc Dong commune, the new spirit and pride of the mountainous border district, the first ethnic group in the country to complete the new rural construction program is spreading strongly to every village and hamlet in the area, encouraging and motivating the people of Binh Lieu to enthusiastically compete in labor; proactively and boldly deploy new production and business models to get rich. From the beginning of 2024 to now, the whole district has established 2 more cooperatives, 26 business households, and people have registered to participate in implementing 23 production development models. 595 households (including 6 poor households, 96 near-poor households) boldly borrowed capital to develop production. The total loan amount in the first 6 months of the year reached over 49 billion VND.
