“Treasures of the South - the other side of the world” published by the Writers Association Publishing House, brings readers back to the heroic historical years of the Vietnamese people, while opening up a mysterious spiritual world, where cultural and spiritual values are vividly recreated.
The novel tells the story of Vietnamese people's journey across the boundary between life and death, between reality and nothingness, to discover precious spiritual "treasures". These are cultural values, national pride and the power of humanity.
At the novel launch, author Nguyen Thi Anh Thu shared that this work is to express deep gratitude to the Southern cadres who gathered - those who devoted their whole lives to the ideals of independence and freedom, national harmony and national unification.
The female writer spent 4 years writing the novel, inspired by a real detail: In 1983, two foreigners crossed the sea to Vietnam to search for treasure on Hon Tre Island - an event that caused a stir and opened up stories about historical mysteries and the desire to discover the hidden values of a coastal country.
Through each character such as Mr. Ba, Mrs. Hanh An, Mr. Muoi, Cat Binh, etc., the author leads readers into a profound dialogue between the past and the present, between humans and supernatural forces, thereby highlighting the meaning of the longevity and inheritance of national culture. In particular, the novel recreates the turbulent years of the country, when the Vietnamese people had to face war, poverty and harsh challenges but still maintained a spirit of loyalty and deep patriotism.
Associate Professor, Doctor, literary critic Vu Nho commented that the novel is both symbolic and adventurous, and very realistic about the lives and fates of Vietnamese and Americans during the war. Combining many themes and connecting many fates, the author has been very successful in discovering the “treasure of the South” to introduce to friends around the world.
As the character Robert said to the character Mr. Muoi: “Although we have not found that treasure, we still feel lucky to have set foot in this country of Vietnam. There are extraordinary stories here, and extraordinary people. This must be a real treasure for us.”
With a sharp writing style, combining reality and legend, "Treasure of the South - the other side of the world" is not only a story, but also a reminder of the responsibility to preserve the core values of the nation in today's era.
